JQ to fly the Dreamliner to NZ

Jetstar 787s to fly the Tasman over summer | Australian Aviation

During a 7 week period this coming summer, JQ will fly from both Syd and Mel to several NZ airports with their 787s.
I'd be interested in seeing how much their J seats would cost!

Flights loaded showing 787s (interestingly Y prices mostly cheaper than the A320 flights), but no J showing. Where is the "spare" aircraft coming from?

Note it's a single aircraft operating triangular route MEL-AKL-SYD (not return to/from each of SYD and MEL).

Sounds like a very long positioning flight from MEL to SYD. And they're selling the J seats as Y extra leg room seats.

The plane is not the problem, just the way nearly all airlines choose to configure it ... including Jetstar with 9 across and 30" seat pitch. Wouldn't mind trying the 31" pitch, 2-4-2 configurations that JL and NH have.

I would seriously consider flying the 787 on AKL-SYD, and paying an extra $30 to sit in one of the "J" seats... if I had a reason to travel to NZ during the summer.

Why is a full service airline flying budget aircraft (737's everywhere!) and a budget airline flying slick new 787's!

Because the 737's are the right aircraft for those routes that don't require the capacity of a 787/330 or a greater frequency.

Calling a 737 a budget aircraft smacks of ignorance IMHO.

Almost certain they will be. Apart from the Japanese, think every other service (and LCC) has gone 3x3x3

read some peoples posts/replies ALL OVER THIS FORUM, and you soon realize the ignorance of some...what shocks me is that these people are 'seasoned travelers'/'business owners'/or the like and don't 'get' how a market economy works

Agreed that the configuration is ONE of the problems. But it's not the only problem.

Its a limited service over peak summer holidays. Suspect it's actually getting better utilisation as well eg.
