I'm chasing platinum on VA and have decided that a quick status run may well be worth it.

I'm looking at a Flexi Saver SYD-SIN-BKK-SIN-SYD over a weekend. It prices up at a very reasonable $1029.

Does a Flexi saver definitely count as "flexible" economy for VA earning? My calculations show earning of 60+30+30+60=180.

Seems like very good value. Almost too good....

These are the classes that earn full fare economy SC's: Singapore Airlines*: Y, B, E, M, H, W, L

The last two I've done have been in W class ex-MEL to HKG (for $990) and to KLO (for $1059), but both had extended stopovers in SIN, which added extra taxes. So yours is probably in W as well, so would get full economy SCs.

Fare class needs to be Y B E M H W or L to get full economy status credits. Flexi savers usually show as "100% mileage accrual" which should give full economy SCs but I would confirm with the fare class. Your SC calcs look ok to me.

It can be confusing with fare buckets etc But to confirm, the below is a one way flexi saver I took the other week as a SG.

Often the SQ fares get overlooked for Status runs, I've suggested them in the past but not so many people take them. Just make sure you've got the required number of sectors on VA metal.

Yes, a little surprising — I'm taking a trip to Japan on a Flexi saver fare which will net 240 status credits for ~$1300. Good advice on the required sectors though!

Sounds good. Something to look at anyway.

I've done heaps of VA sectors this year but they're all 10sc SYD-MEL/BNE. This should be a nice way to net the last few. Beats a few days of shuttling to the Gold Coast and back...

I'll leave the SC accrual confirmation to others, far more knowledgable than I, but as for that fare ....... All I can say is WOW. Maybe I need to revisit SQ paid fares (I'm assuming these are VA codeshares?)

I booked direct with SQ, so a downside is no miles bonus via status. However the corresponding VA Flexi fare was considerably more expensive! Forgoing the extra miles for the status is a better deal in my situation.

The example I posted above was only $620 One way booking 2 days out and Flexi Saver... Now I'm trying to find something so I can go home but struggling to get anything with good timing!

Does HKG fall into the 30 or 40 SC column ex SIN? $997 for 200 SCs isn't bad value at all

Fwiw I just use gcmap and that's proven to be ok for me.

The distance I used came straight from my Krisflyer statement SIN-HKG ... 7 miles more than gcmap :). It's only when it's at the margins of a zone (+/-10) is the difference important.

It's not really a cheap airfare but pretty good for SCs.

They sure do, I got 1594 points + 40SC from doing SIN-HKG in SQ Flexi Saver last month.

Great. Sounds like a fun (!) weekend to be had. It's achievable with a 7 hour stop in SIN outbound and a 7 hour in HKG.

Does SQ happily allow crediting to one program and using another for lounge access? Depending on when I go ahead, I'll probably only be VA Silver, however have Star Gold. I can always use Amex/Priority Pass, however it would be better to get it for nothing

Yes, I flew MEL/SIN/LHR + BCN/SIN/MEL last June and received full SC's. It was worth the extra $500 to receive double SC's for the journey!

I've just booked my husband to fly to Japan this year for the same reason! He's also looking to retain Platinum, so it's worth the extra 5hr travelling time each way + $400 cost difference to his friends.
