Model Airplanes

Today I had a bit of spare time & took the opportunity to visit some of the various Hobby shops in the Melbourne CBD.

I had no particular reason to visit, other than to browse at all the fantastic "toys" on offer.

When I came across this Qantas 747-400 model plane complete with the Australian F1 insignia at the great price of $20 I couldn't resist, & I thought I would share my recent purchase here on AFF.

Does Anyone else got some cool model planes they have purchased recently? ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1434628271.819012.jpgImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1434628306.866660.jpg

What scale is it?

I've never started a collection for the main reason that it seems they all come in different scales and if I was going to collect my favourite aircraft I'd want to make sure the A380 wasn't the same size as a Q400 (for instance).

If all the planes are the same scaling, shouldn't that mean the A380 would be bigger than the Q400? That sounds logical to me.

That said, there seems to be a few different brands/companies that make these model planes - which ones are the better ones? I am looking at accuracy and attention to detail.

Yes, that's what I'm saying. I'll often see a Q400 and a B737 in different scales, leading to a result that they don't look right side by side.

Example here:

You have Mendoowoorrji in 1/130.

Also Retro Roo in 1/130.

But there's now no other models in 1/130, in fact the 747's range from 1/200 to 1/500. The A380's range from 1/200 to 1/400. Perhaps the closest scale to the only 737's on offer is a B707 in a special Christmas livery that might not even be real, at 1/150.

These are all sold by Qantas, and even they can't get uniform sizes! :p

Sorry, I should have stated the size.

1:200

Just checked out eBay.... Prices for this size generally go for $35+ upwards, so I think I did well.
