Hi Guys

I am hoping someone can advise me the best way to do this as I've had difficulties in the past with this particular booking.

I would like to book award J x 2 return BNE/JNB/BNE for June/July next year. I have specific days I wish to book.

There usually is no problem finding availability BNE/SYD/JNB and JNB/SYD on 353? days out. But the problem comes when I want to end the trip in BNE which I wish to do next year.

The flight from JNB to SYD arrives one day later so need to book SYD/BNE at 354 days which hasn't been loaded.

Is it possible to book JNB/SYD and SYD/BNE as 2 separate bookings and then ring up Qantas to combine the 2 bookings and reimburse the extra points that it costs me to do the booking as 2 separate bookings instead of one.

If I leave the booking until BNE has loaded I may miss out on availability ( this is what has happened in the past ) on the JNB/SYD flights.

Sorry if this sounds a little confusing but hope you can understand what I mean and someone may offer a solution.

Thanks for your help.

It's an award booking. A return is just two one way awards flights. Book away.

The OP already knows that. The issue is booking the one way flight home, he can't get the connecting flight from SYD to BNE as it hasn't been loaded. So he'll have to book two segments, at a higher cost.

OP, I don't know the answer to your question, but I'd be tempted to just book JNB->SYD then as soon as you see availability for SYD-BNE, phone up and amend your existing booking. You can then argue they should waive the change fee (which I think will be 3500 points).

I initially responded to was what OP was asking and then re-read it and come to a totally different conclusion of what he wanted (shouldn't have done it on the phone).

The reason for my initial response was, I was making an award booking on the phone this morning (needed to do the kids in different class and he needed clearances from CX) and was asking about the same situation for flights I need to book for next September. The answer he gave me was you had to just wear the extra points. It is an extra 96k points for that flight for the 6 of us or fly direct into BNE (A380 v 744). I don't know whether this is a HUCA or not but would love a way around it.

Thanks greenfish. I will definitely book the JNB>SYD as soon as available to lock in that flight, and I will try your advise the next day and phone.
