Following on from my debacle yesterday about getting the right fares i have some flights coming up on AA using a QF codeshare.

I selected seats on the flights using the QF MMB seat selector thing

I checked on the AA website to determine the flight number. I then checked on expert flyer to ensure its all worked out and it doesnt show the seats i selected on QF are assigned and are free.

Anyone have experience with this? Is it just a codeshare issue where you dont really get the seat you request? Or am i doing it wrong?
The seat i selected appears to be a Main Cabin Extra seat which according to the AA website cost extra but when i select them QF doesnt ask me to pay up or mention this at all.

So do i really have the seats and if not what do i need to do to ensure i get the seats i selected on the QF website?

Cool link
It shows up as

  • Seat assignment:12C - Unconfirmed

Is there anything i can do to get it to go through?
My QF flights are all confirmed in. Just the AA's show unconfirmed :(

Ask QF for the AA PNR (it's a different number because it's Sabre v. Amadeus) and then go onto the AA site and do it there.

Wouldn't using the AA PNR on the AA site incur AA charges - as Sdtravel highlights?

Presumably, the preferred method would be for the (free) QF request to be confirmed ... can this be done?

BD

Spoke to QF who said that it could be firstly becuase its an exit row and AA might charge for that.
And secondly because those are extra costs seats. They suggested i check non extra cost seats and see if it goes through. Or try calling AA to see if they can assist

:( Here i thought i could score a main cabin extra seat at no costs
Im a QC PS so i wouldnt have to pay the whole fee due to status if i chose to go ahead

How about QF codeshare on PG operated flight? No hope of choosing seat before travel.

I have an upcoming VN codeshare and it seems can't do it with that either. :-(

Only do your AA seat selection direct through the AA website as the selections don't appear to stick if selected via QF.

I don't know what the exact issue is eg Amadeus or Sabre not talking to each other but have heard several cases where ppl have thought seats were confirmed because the seat number was shown as such on their QF itin & in their booking on MMB only to find there are only middle seats left when they get their AA boarding pass here in Oz when they checkin.

To be perfectly honest I don't think it's either of the above reasons. I bet if you select a (non-preferred) seat down the back via QF MMB that the selection won't stick & it will still show unoccupied on Expert Flyer.

Just go onto the AA site & see what you can select. I wouldn't be surprised if you could snag the first row of whY or an exit row free of charge but make sure AA have your QF PS ffn in the booking before you do the seating.

As a QF WP I've always been able to get preferred AA seating on the AA site at the time of booking or several weeks prior to departure & not been bumped out of it.

As a WP you have free access to the premium seats though. Ill give AA a call in the morning. But it would suck if i have to pay. As a PS paying for a Y+ fare sitting in Y and still have the pay for premium seating :(
Qf allow higher paying pax to get access to better seats and exit rows for free.

Speaking of partner seat maps (though largely off topic for the OP) - tomorrow's 9W-75 (codeshare QF3953) was showing different seat maps up until about 10pm last night - seats available on the 9W coded seat map showed occupied (not blocked, occupied) for the equivalent QF flight number. The EF seat map for the QF coded flight matched what I could see in MMB. This spontaneously fixed itself about 10pm last night at which point my seat alert fired and I snagged an exit row seat that had previously shown as occupied but which the EF seat map for the 9W flight number had shown as empty.

\_(ツ)_/¯

I'd try the website first to see what happens. You never know your luck.

I dont even know the AA PNR to ask them about it. ANyone know how to get it?
Do i just give them the QF PNR?

I did some testing on this as well. I selected the seats down the back and they show up as confirmed on checkmytrip and EF. :(
Also now everytime i try to select a Main extra seat on AA it dosnt show up in MMB. After i select it and go back to the main page it shows as not selected.

I guess i can still cal AA to see if they will do anything for me since i am paying Y+.

EDIT.
Just noticed something as well
My fare class on these flights is B. According to QF this is Full Y or Y+ saver.
B class on AA is also full economy. The AA website says " customers who purchase a full-fare Main Cabin ticket receive complimentary access to Main Cabin Extra seats."
My odds might be looking up. Will do some calling when i get into the office

You need to call qantas to ask them for the AA PNR. Without that AA will have nothing. Also if I remember correctly you booked this with a travel agent. Have you asked them to select seats?

TA put me as far forward as they could.
I asked them for the main extra seats exactly what I wanted but for whatever reason they couldn't.
Guess im calling qf again

Do you use any apps to track flights? My Flights shows me the booking reference for other airlines, well it does at least for EK on QF bookings. As does Tripcase, QF on an AA booking.

But isn't that talking about 'B' class on AA issued tickets/flights? I'm wondering if the AA system is not recognising a Qantas 'B' class for the purpose of assigning seats?

So i have spoken to QF & AA. QF cant do it as they simply class it as a chargeable seat that we must contact AA to get. I tried on the AA website but it still gave me errors so i cant do any seat via the AA website.
So I am booked on a B class fare and although this is stated to be a full Y seat on the AA website American Airlines oneworld partner | aa.com
Apparently its a Discounted economy full Y fare so they arent free. They are at a discounted rate to someone on a discounted Y ticket. Ie only $14 as opposed to $30.

I said this is somewhat misleading as it doesnt specify the fare class on their website https://www.aa.com/i18n/urls/mainCabinExtra.jsp?anchorLocation=DirectURL&title=maincabinextra
It just suggests all full fare economy tickets can get access.

Anyway i didnt want to go pay more again so i just got them to select my seats. They did want to charge me a fee of $80 for using reservations service but said due to my PS status that is waived. But had they wanted to charge me anyway i would have said that since i cant do it on your website that would have been not on.

Anyway i have a seat that is better but not really what i wanted and i think the AA website is totally misleading.

As per your link, looks like you can select MCE seats within 24 hours of flight departure.

I think the issue here is that you are on a QF codeshare? (ie For all intents and purposes, you are not on an eligible economy AA ticket.)

True but doubtful it would be available

The AA website lists it as a B fare. So QF purchased a B fare from them. When i login to AA with the PNR it shows the AA flight numbers. I think anyone on B even with the AA flight number would be in this situation. Mine is just extra tricky cause its part of a code share
