Calling the Flight Attendant

On Qantas I call it "the ignore" button ... Often the galley works best ...

Agree, although I usually seem to visit the galley while they are having their meal. I respect this time of theirs as not being available to pax. ( not withstanding that there should be others about, but never seem to be)

Then I'm stuffed - no service via button AND none via visit.

Re: Calling the Flight Attendant

depends on the airline e.g. CX prefer call bell and respond quickly, QF prefer galley visits if in Y as they have less staff

Re: Calling the Flight Attendant

As yohy?! notes it is dependent upon airline and class. I've only ever rung the bell once and that was in first after I'd been asleep and awoke when the rest of the cabin was quiet. I asked for and quickly received a meal with a smile.

Re: Calling the Flight Attendant

If in economy I visit the galley. Some FA's hate it.

If in business I use a mixture of call button and visiting various galleys.

What happens to the open alcohol?
Someone asked an FA on SQ who said it was thrown out, others report half open bottles at the start of a flight.
Others say they pour the wine and cheap spirits out, but put the high end stuff in a special container which is sealed until in the air. (which i think seems right, as i doubt they throw out $500 bottle with one nip taken out each flight)

And they pour the cheaper stuff while on the ground (J and F) cause they have to pay duty on these, then have the better stuff available when duty does not need to be paid

With wine, we used to have to tip it all out at the end of the flight. We changed that a little while ago and on a good portion of flights we don't have to throw out half used bottles when overseas with the exception of Champagne. All flights into Australia though the wine must be tipped out.

In economy our spirit bottles are always full when loaded and often empty when we get to the other end!! In F and J the bottles are not necessarily 100% full but would never be loaded half full. I'm not certain what happens with half spirit bottles from the premium cabins.

Wow, I never really thought about this but it seems quite wasteful to tip out perfectly good alcohol!

Maybe bottles less than half full (or what ever level is determined 'suitable' for needs) is decanted, or shunted to the F/J lounges for use there?

It seems if bottled can be loaded less than full, they aren't entirely ditched at the end of each flight.

How about unopened bottles of champagne/other wine? You sometimes hear about FAs offering it to pax as a gift/service recovery or whatnot..

Re: Calling the Flight Attendant

These can be used for recovery where required.

Would you ever considering offering half-used bottles of wine to passengers (be it for service recovery reasons or otherwise) if they had to be thrown out anyway?

I've been offered the remains of an open bottle at the end of a business class QF flight. I was the only passenger who had had a glass of wine from the bottle, and the attendant said it would have to be thrown away otherwise. I appreciated it. This was some years ago, mind you.
