Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

Had a nice Pinot with lunch and thought that I would have a glass or two of Pinot when I got home.. but alas! No more :(
So I snuck over to Mr Up's side of the cellar and pulled this out... Nose of varnish with a taste of green tannins :( Blah.. encouraging the responsible drinking.. I've sat on this glass for 3 hours! .. think I was set up ;):)

Never fear... Mr Up is now home and I hear the pop of a cork being pulled.. My hero <3

That a VM purchase? I figure I wouldn't touch me first one for at least another three years.

Yes- from VM. I don't have a lot of storage so most of what I buy is to consume in the next 12 months

Nebbiolo is a struggler in Australia and I think it would be an especial push to find one that would quaff well. Food needed.

While you all experiment I just drink the wines I like-

The Tahbilk was at it's best and a beautiful drop.Still a little time left in the Petaluma so I did prefer the Tahbilk.
There are occasions I will try something different. When in Tassie I have been to this vineyard a few times and tried their Baco noir.Grows on you.
Three Willows Vineyard handmade cool climate wines, Deloraine, Tasmania

Just up the road is the 42 South salmon farm which is definitely worth a visit.

Fairmont Empress Gold Lounge Victoria, Vancouver Island, BC. Saturday night wines and spread. Very nice. Fairmont do one of the best club spreads and wines.

Last night at Goodmans steakhouse in London I saw the 2009 Silver Oak Cab Sav at 130 pounds a bottle plus the service charge. We settled on the Zinfandel by the glass to avoid a monster bill. The steaks are really good.

Pescatore's for dinner and only decent bottle of Canadian wine was ( not much choice actually)

Then back lack to the Fairmont at around 9:30 for chocolate covered strawberries, coffee and wine, liquor selection. Amazing choice from a hotel lounge. I chose a couple of glasses of

Feel like a big red tonight so I'm going for Kay Brothers "The Cuthbert" Cab Sav 2008.

It recommends decanting for two hours, glad I've opened it early :)

Californian Chardonnay as too oakey. Okanagan Valley one much better, surprisingly.

Another one from the Okanagan. Lovely fruits and flinty palate.

Their Chardonnay was so good that seemed worth trying this. Excellent.
Have tried the Cannonball range a couple of years ago - thought most of them were 'bit light' but really very drinkable

At Matisse in Victoria, Vancouver Island, BC. Not a bad wine list must have to drink local so chose this on advice. Not bad. To paraphrase and old quote, " far from transcendent but perfectly quaffable".

Aaahh - Tofino. Nice place to enjoy some nice wines :).

Taking the floatplane to do some coast-viewing and whale-spotting? If you do, I can recommend trying to get on the mail-run - lot's more take-offs and landings that way ;).

I opened this on Mother's Day dinner with the family - another Vinomofo purchase. Great drinking now - I'd like to describe the wine in more detail, but I made the mistake of drinking a few glasses before dinner and then continued drinking another bottle of wine before moving onto Cognac, so my memory was a little clouded! Suffice to say that it went down really well.

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

We had a dinner party last Sat. to celebrate my birthday and finished it off with a bottle of Penfolds Grandfather Port from the year of my birth. Surprisingly it was still bloody good. Being a tawny port it had not improved since it was bottled in 1969 but still had that luscious flavour.
The cork was wedged very tightly and broke into several pieces but after straining into the decanter the result was outstanding.

I believe in those special bottles of port.
A very dear friend was quite impressed with the opening of a bottle of Para port of his birth year for his 70th.
I also like my vintage ports.A bottle of an All Saints 1970 was taken to Broken Hill for those cool nights.

Nice Oregon willamette valley Pinot. Forest floor on the nose, lovely bouquet, quite bitter tannins to start but softened with aeration. Didn't actually hold its body over time but nice wine.

Drinking well but unlikely to improve. Cork a little dry but good considering not stored in aircon!
