Macquarie Bank takes over from HSBC

Chrome did a funky update this month. Wasn't able to log into the ATO portal as the latest version doesn't routinely support Java anymore.

I hate it when IT people have no consideration for the actual users of the product.

Yup. I had to download Firefox due to this as our business online banking uses Java and suddenly it doesn't work anymore. Very annoying.

So there never has been and still isnt any issues paying your bill, new card activated or not.

No, there definitely was, it took over a week for my wife's BPay to hit her account (using the old number), this caused her to be charged a late fee and spend half an hour on the phone about it.

They seem to have fixed this problem, but fixing it is not the same as there never having been a problem. The CSR who she talked to also said, oh yes that's a known problem and I can fix it for you.

Actually it's more bad web design than a browser issue. Pop ups are very poor, and Java quite insecure.

Happy to say that with my Amex and brand new Citi Visa ( coming with 70 k points) , I will be able to reduce my monthly spend with Macquarie to well under $2500.

Got a paper mailed reminder that my old card will expire 25 APR yesterday along with another flyer about the 10% off my next woolies shop and a letter explaining it all and reminding me to activate the new card before 23:59 on the 25th to get my 2000 points, so doesn't look like I'm going to get a better offer.

I'm playing chicken. It's reactivate no later than Saturday 25th for 2K points, or don't and see what happens.

My March statement showed I'd been credited the 5K FFP for activating. Yet to see them in my QFF account but I guess they will go over with the next sweep of the card. I was kind of annoyed to be constantly phoned (about 10 times) by someone from their call centre while I was travelling in Japan. I ignored the repeated calls (no voicemail) until finally I answered as I thought it must be someone/something important. Turns out it was the call centre wanting to explain to me all the new "benefits and features" of the new card and that I should activate it. I pointed out that I had already activated it and in fact had been using it on my trip and that I was overseas right now and she apologised and rang off.

Received a text from them today:
URGENT: Your existing Woolworths Money MasterCard will stop working in 3 days. Call 1300 10 1234 now to activate your new Visa card.
Not really worried.

We have moved on as our expenses that we card are just too high for that $2500 limit of a point per dollar.

22 April statement showed 2,000 QFF points bonus and only half points for the small tester over the 2,500 points cap.
Saying goodbye to another old friend though always was a fringe card and not the main attraction.

Interesting conversation today.

tgh If I decide not to activate the card , will you refund the annual fee we paid in dec
Woolies : no . we cannot refund your fee
tgh : but you have not honoured the contract upon which you charged the fee
Woolies Yes we have , we have given you a new card
tgh : Yes but upon completely different terms and conditions to the terms upon which you charged me the original fee.
Woolies . (my paraphrasing) .. well thats just the way it is
tgh .. so how do I cancel the card ?

At this point I hung up as I wasn't sure this action would get my fee back either
I'm off to read the terms and conditions

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Where were they listed? Were they called out specifically?
They were listed under the Your rewards section on the left hand side of the PDF statement. It showed "Qantas Points earned this period" then under that it was separated into "Qantas points" and then "Bonus Qantas Points". There was 5K listed under "Bonus Qantas Points".

I had a call today too. They said if I activate today and spend anything on the card today or tomorrow I'd get the 2000 points, 10% off Woolworths shop, and fee waived for next year (which is about 6 months away). Given I have to have a card for EDR in my wallet anyway, I said ok.

Let's see if the fee waiver is given at the end of the year. I already had it waived for this year.

Re the Chrome problems others had. I just logged in now to check my balance etc., and had no problems with Chrome.

However, I notice that the https has a red line through it and a X. This is worrying. Does that mean it is no longer a secure site? Is this related to the Java problem. I am not an IT expert :(

For me, under the Your Rewards section it just shows 2446 points earned this cycle, it is not separated out to 2000 bonus points and 446 normal points.

Just Curious about spending patterns.. or blind luck.
Are they rewarding folks who pay a bit of interest by offering no fee ?
