Just got an e-mail offering 2010 HoG from the winery :D. If I'm one of the first 50 to buy 3 (@$650 ea) I get a 'bespoke' Riedel decanter (looks snazzy)

Now I love my HoG, and buy every year, but 3 is a bit beyond my budget. :(

And I'm damn-well overseas for their launch dinner again. Third year in a row.

How much do these usually go for at DM's? How much is that decanter really worth? I think you can see where I'm going with this :)

Having said that, if you feel you can't drink three bottles in one sitting, I'd be happy to assist :p

Won't know DM (Dan Murphy I guess?) or anyone else's price for the 2010 until its released in May.

Oh, drinking 3 in one sitting no problem - we've done it in a mini vertical a few years back - but its the supply that's the problem.

Back in 1974 at The Barn in McLaren Vale myself and 2 colleagues polished off 6 HOGs in a long lunch. But then they were ~ 1% of today's price.

Solution. Buy 6 bottles. You then get two decanters :)

Is the launch dinner invite only? If not, can you post details please.

Sorry, missed your post earlier.

The pre-release invite was to the 'Hill of Friends' group. The dinners, on 4,5 and 6 May in SYD, MEL, BNE and ADL (not sure how that's going to work) were part of the same e-mail invite, 'details to follow', but not sure if it is exclusive to HoF.

Just received an email from United Cellars offering pre-orders of the 2010 HoG for $599 per bottle and claiming RRP is $699.

Unless that decanter is crystal, I can't see it being worth $153.
