Scored an OP-UP from Y+ to J on SYD-AUD the other day. Totally stoked, row 5.

lucky duck :) did you do anything in particular ? was it a saver or flexi fare and what status are you ? I presume they all make a difference to give you that edge over the others :)

so I just booked our trip to Berlin in September on a saver fare. MEL-SYD-AUH-TXL and vice versa. As im platinum I was given more seating options, how is the row 20 bulkhead ? on the VA777.

Not to fussed with the Air Berlin flight as itll only be 6 hours so should be bearable but any advice would be great as its my first long haul with VA.

also I can upgrade to flexi fare for us both for $2600 and 180k worth of points and get business class on the SYD to AUH journey. its probably worth it isn't it ?

Personally, I wouldn't waste your money or points. I have never flown Y with VAi however I have flown Y+ and J. I prefer Y+ to J especially if you are paying for it out of your own pocket. I could think of better options to use 180K of points/$2600. Especially now with the deal with Singapore airlines. Once VA update their J product I am sure I will have a different point of view but for now...

I'm WP and I was on a Flexi Y+ ticket, so I guess that gave me the edge over other WPs. Possibly. Heading back in Y+ on a Saver, so I'm not expecting a repeat performance. But I will hope anyway.

those with flexi do seem to have more luck but then ill cross my fingers for you anyway :)

oh yeah and how is the row 20 bulkhead on the VA777 ? or should I look for another seat ? I have good noise cancelling headphones so crying children wont be an issue.

I've just booked (via Upgrade) J to LAX return. we are family of 3, so have booked the 1D/F/G . Only thing Seatguru said was for 1G proximity to lav may be bothersome. Anyone have any experience. We considered row 5 but don't think its for us. opinions?

I think you should enjoy whatever row you are in.

I tried to book J upgrade & redemption today, the website showed 4 seats available for redemption, but the call centre said only 2 were available.

So after 9 years of saving up points, I get to go PE for my 10th wedding anniversary... First world problems I know, but I specifically waited, saved & searched for availability.

On a lighter note, for three of you I recommend row 5 middle. The three of you will be together with a curtain around and it will be like your own suite!

There are 3 toilets for the J cabin. The one near 1G is for the Ladies so it's probably the least used of the 3.

It's not an issue

Reality is that entire J cabin is good. The differences are minute. There are pros and cons for every seat.

Row 1 is great. Proximity to toilets is not an issue because its a J toilets and its only for J so not busy.

If there is a criticism its that every seat in VA777 J cabin is either a Climber or Climbee. - either you have to climb over someone to go to toilets or someone has to climb over you to go to toilets. Especially when seats are deployed flat.
however even this is also a minute detail

Fully agree with this.

Note the toilet in front of 5J/K seems to be much less employed than those at the front - maybe because they are 'out of sight' hence 'out of mind' for most of the J cabin occupants.

Any blokes ever tried to use the ladies loo in front of 1G?

isnt it generally the case that ladies toilets are always associated with a long queue.

One exception is at big rugby matches where mens toilets had a queue and the girls none.

Yes I have seen several guys use the Ladies Only toilets on my 4 VA J journeys. I spend a lot of time people watching and can attest that some guys prop and read the sign first - some still enter - others turn away and seek advice from crew. I have seen crew direct males to other WCs and indeed have witnessed crew sanction males entering the Ladies Only WC.

And of course I have noticed quite a number of males who just do not read signage and just open and enter - did the possess prior knowledge of the Ladies Only policy - who knows - but it did not deter them if they did.

Yes...all of the flight crew used it on 1 flight and I have also used it after the precedence was set
Crew use it because they have better things to do then line up for the loo.... Otherwise it's nice that it's female only. The floor stays dry.
