SA proposal to change time zones

I think because SA is so wide the half hour was adopted as ADL is to the east of the state. One hour difference to the eastern states would align with Ceduna's longitude or thereabouts.

So going to EST would not be too bad for ADL, but really stretching it for the west.

I hope the consultation is long and inclusive.

I'd have thought align with East would be best.
W.A. (mainland, excluding semi-autonomous ocean territories under its jurisdiction) has two time zones anyway. Eucla and the area around it immediately adjacent to the S.A. border is 45 minutes ahead of Perth time and 45 minutes behind central standard time... So, try that one for confusing time calculations.

Splitting the state into two timezones doesn't seem to be suggested, which would seem to me like a good compromise for those in the west of the state.

I doubt split timezones will happen in SA for many of the same reasons daylight saving in SE Qld hasn't happened. Excluding the fading curtains of course.;)

Yes, would probably be the best option. Pull the NT/Qld border line down south to the Spencer Gulf (with a little loop west around Port Augusta) and everything to the east goes to EST.

Then move what's left, and the N.T., onto a new CST, one hour behind EST and one hour ahead of WST. This move would probably put Darwin on a more suitable/natural time zone, and allow for less disruption across the W.A. border in the Kimberly and the combined irrigation zone up there. (And those on Central-West time in the south of W.A. could move onto CST as well.)

SA will become their own country before they adopt WA time. As a former Adelaidian I support the move to AEST.

The other place that would be affected is Broken Hill which use SA time rather than NSW time.

SA to change time zone? South Australia time zone to match eastern states or WA?

Interesting.

I'd have thought align with East would be best.

Option then would be have daylight saving (align with Vic) or don't do daylight saving and align with Qld.

Does anyone know why it was 1/2hr in the first place (and not full hour or same zone)?
When I lived in Adelaide 20+ years ago, this issue would come up from time to time.... I think moving to EST would make sense.

As long as I still get to start at 9, finish at 5 and get to keep daylight saving, I don't really care.

Come to think about it, I don't want to do the 9 to 5 any more either.

No only 10 years and 30 mins.... :p;)
Actually SA may have to petition the other states to moves their clocks forward 10 years for them to catch up.

The ABC news has just reported that consultation may be two months, in order for a change to take effect when DST starts in September.

some dingbat thought it might be a good idea for SA to go forward 15 minutes and the Eastern States go back 15 minutes - now that would be a nightmare - I don't really care if we go back or forward 30 minutes but think it would be good to be on the same time zone as EST
