Hello!

We are flying business MEL-LAX in just over a week, we know we receive 2 x 32kg bags free, but as we are moving permanently we may have more than that. Does anyone know if they are lenient at check in with how many bags you have (i.e 3 bags would be ok each if under total of 64kg?) and also does the weight limit for business apply to extra bags we purchase (do we still get a 32kg allowance?) Is it cheaper to pre purchase extra bags or is it the same price at the check in desk?

thanks!

If you find it's a heavy cost, have you considered a service called Jetta? They collect your luggage some days before departure date and I assume stick it on a lightly loaded plane to your destination. When you arrive at LAX you go to a special luggage collection spot - I think where you collect oversize baggage, then go through Customs as usual. IIRC when I looked at it a few years ago for a child moving O/S it was much cheaper. I think they will even come and pick it up from home for an additional fee. I guess the downside is if you decide to drop it off yourself you have to track somewhere obscure in the wilds of Tullamarine. Might be worth investigating their website for charges.

Hi,
thanks for the suggestion but it will definitely work out better for us to use our 2 x 32kg each luggage allowance plus perhaps purchase another bag at $150 .
I'm just trying to figure out if we can wait and do that at check in (if same price) or pre pay it. If its the same at check in we would rather do that in case the check in agent allows all our bags through if they end up being below the combined limits (rather than piece limit).

Based on the information on the VA website, it appears that you can pre-purchase up to 2 additional pieces at $35 each, or $70 and $90 for a first and second additional at the airport.

Guests have the option to pre-purchase up to two pieces of baggage in addition to any included baggage allowance. Additional baggage allowances must be purchased before check in. Total AUD charges for pre-purchased baggage allowances, in addition to the included allowance, depend on fare and Velocity membership.Note: Additional fees will apply when adding baggage via the Guest Contact Centre.

Hi,
Thanks I know what the website says - that above info is for domestic flights. We are flying to LAX so the above does not apply.
The excess checked baggage info for long haul international just lists it as $150 per piece, to whether its the same prepaid as at airport.

Oops, my bad. You're correct.

If you're Silver and travel on the same PNR do both people get an extra bag of just the status holder?
