Hi Everyone,

I will be in Singapore this July and need to book a one way flight from SIN to PER. As the current QF flights only go to PER via either SYD or Mel I will book in J.

One way fares are only to be had at a premium over return flights but unfortunately that is what I need. Currently the fares are approximately SIN $3,000.
I have to travel back on July 15th and don't want to leave the booking too late in case there are no seats. I know I can get a cheaper MH flight via KUL but I want to stick with QF for the SCs.

My question is based on past experiences are QF likely to offer any specials around mid July 2015 for a one way SIN-PER?

Many thanks for your ever helpful advice.

There have never been one way special commercial fares for a lot of legacy carriers such as QF as opposed to a LCC fares structure so you end up with the crazy scenario of a one way almost being the same as a return or occasionally more.

One option to consider would be to purchase a return fare SIN/xSYD or MEL/PER & vv so that you can 'nest' the return sector which you can use to position back to SIN at a later date that way you'll get more bang for your buck.

If you're a QF WP do you have enough points that you could use for a one way award ticket SIN via SYD or MEL to PER in J on QF? One way award tickets are not penalised in the same way commercial fares are.

If you don't have enough QF points you could sign up to AA & AS frequent programs which allow you to purchase points (ie you don't need to do any flying and credit to AA - you just purchase straight off the bat) then just book an one way award straight away.

You would need to ascertain that there are award seats in J ("U" class fare bucket) before you purchase the required miles. The benefit of doing a QF award ticket via AA or AS is that you still get to travel QF but pay very low taxes ie less than USD100.00 compared to several hundred dollars if redeeming via the QF ff program.

Thanks Oz. The flight PER to SIN is actually an AA points flight in J and F. I am looking for a SC boost so happy to pay cash for the return.

In that case I would get a price for a J return fare to PER ex SIN & see how that compares to the one way fare.

The likely only positive that came out of QF canceling the PER-SIN flights is that SC earn on partners to PER (from SEAsia) is still at reasonable levels. So.... if you aren't looking for ~s, I would seriously look at MH on the SIN-KUL-PER route (120SC each way ?). Especially if a round trip fare was in the consideration.

Happy wandering

+1. Alternatively if seriously considering flying all the way to MEL or SYD then to PER just for the status credits (quite an expensive undertaking) there are all manner of trips one can take on MH (J) to get cheap status credits (eg for $900 return from Singapore to Bali gets 160 .. only 40 short of the amount travelling from SIN-MEL-PER, at a fraction of the cost, throw in a Jetstar flight to Perth and almost there.
