I am hoping to book a couple of these when they come on sale for our visit, web site says 90 days out. Are you able to take a camera up in the crown (DSLR with a 24-70 lens) I note no back packs allowed.

Cheers

The security at the SOL is like nothing you have seen before, it makes airports seem placid. your camera will be fine, the lockers there are good for everything else.

While I'm sure it would be a good story to tell about going to the top, the queues put off. Would rather spend that time sitting just looking at the Manhattan skyline.

The free Staten Island ferry served the purpose of getting close to the statue. And Top of the Rock for the view. But some just need to climb towers! Pisa. Vatican. Liberty. Eiffel (we did that one) and so on.

A good number of years ago (before 9/11, no security that I can remember). Was in the queue to board the SOL ferry, and had a brainwave. I stood back and waited so that I was the last to board, therefore the first to dis-embark (I figured).

Correct - did a fast walk to the statue entrance, and was second up. Positively zoomed up all the ladders and great view. Unless it has changed, the last couple of stretches are a bit of a squeeze.

Downside was the next day when my legs felt as though they were going to fall off.

:( Windows on the World and Greatest Bar on Earth - what a view! Fantastic bar - they knew how to pour doubles...
