SYD - BNE and vv has lost a lot of the wide bodied planes that used to do the run, ie, the old now dead 767s. Though, at least some of the SYD - MEL and vv still have the 330, but a lot of it is now also the 737.
Who knows, touch wood, maybe one day they (QF) might put more 330 into the Australian eastern states triangular capital city run.
Everytime I look at booking, I can't find a 330 that does the SYD - BNE run, only 737 now, and yes, I know the reason/excuse as been provided on here, that the 330 takes too long to do the turn around between unloading and loading having to need to use the hold huge aluminium boxes, where as the 737 just needs a man to crawl in and move bags out.
Edit:
Does everyone remember the chutes that supposed to be/used to be able to pass extra huge/extra large items to the base level where the trolleys are? Were those chutes ever actually used.
This was before my time ala 1997.
Don't think VA's (AN's old terminal) still has them, but I SYD/MEL still has them, with their lonely red light but not used anymore these days.
They are about chest level, between the seats at the departure gates.
Imagine if those were used, maybe people would learn to not bring along their worldly possessions onto a plane.
Why have so huge a pull along that you have to get a male passenger to help you load this mammoth thing? I had to do it once a few weeks ago, the FA were far away, the girl had her hand in a sling of all things! This was that 330 wide body I took PER to SYD Christmas Day.
