As an aside for those with quick decision making skills, a flexible schedule and budget EK/QF have a F special AKL-BNE expiring Jan 13th for travel Jan 16-Nov 30 of NZD900 (via QF website as QF code) and a bit less on EK code/site. very sweet deal for service/class/experience and SC's/$ outside of the YUP type fares in the US imho. Nets 120 QF SC's/10k points.

Thankyou! I checked into this and as Auckland is a center for our business activity at the moment AND I am in a status run for SG AND I love Emirates first, I have taken up this offer. I've had to book dirt cheap flights that actually as a total cost more than the F booking (on an A380 to boot!) to get to Auckland from Adelaide and Brisbane back to Adelaide. But I will get Gold with this booking.

That is the downside for those who don't know, they think, ahh, EK website for F is showing a bit less than the QF website, might as well save a bit of $ and book on the EK website, with an EK flight code... unbeknown that booking on the EK website, with EK flight number, earns no QF SCs...

I think the point was that using points plus pay (which the comment was made to) is not strictly an ASA.

As pointed out ASA's still exist, but the pricing is off the deep end and not really a viable option...

Clearly another enhancement. :p

But in reality ASA's are just using your points. And not a great exchange rate.

The page is still there, so not sure how you got the 404.

Which is fine, but the QF site does mention the possibility of using points plus pay if the member doesn't have enough points (highly likely) for a points only ASA. Pushka did mention that you couldn't do a FASA anymore which isn't true, it just got enhanced so the cheap ones are gone.

I use the AFF app so maybe that's why the link doesn't work.

I've been exploring the Q website to see if I can book an ASA. I click on the "book ASA" on the ASA explanation page and it takes me to the general booking page and allows me to select Classic awards. So it seems to me that you can't specifically book an ASA but that only comes into effect by using the points slider to reduce the $ paid. It's a very different system.

You book an ASA by clicking view in points on the booking page. It will show the total points required. By clicking the points + play slider will introduce the cash component of the fare.

Ok. It's curious they don't refer to it as an ASA but points view.

Though I have found that ASA points are way higher than would usually make it viable.

...speaking of, I noticed how rarely Qantas sends out double SC offers any more. The 50% thing was a joke. It has to have been nearly 18 months since I've gotten an email.
