Definition of JQ long haul v short haul international

Is BNE-DPS classed as long haul or short haul international?

I'm having an amusing twitter conversation with JQ re what's included with our starter plus bundle on the above route, specifically food.

From the JQ website -

Short Haul International including Trans Tasman operated by Jetstar Airways (JQ)

AUD $10 Inflight Voucher to put towards onboard purchases. Conditions apply.

Long Haul International operated by Jetstar Airways (JQ)

A hot meal plus tea or coffee and a cuplet of water with each meal service. All other drinks are not included and can be purchased separately. Passengers who would like to request a vegetarian meal can do so when booking.

JQ's response is check via Manage your booking and my response was I did that, that's why I'm now asking for clarification.

Anyone know?

ps. what the hell is a cuplet of water? Is it like a thimble just to tempt us to buy a bottle of the stuff?

This really has to come from the horse's mouth, but if I were to take a stab at it, I'd venture that long haul is everything but trans-tasman or ex-DRW with a JQ code and anything with a 3K etc code.

As for cuplets, wouldn't those be the sealed containers that usually contain water/juice (and are notoriously difficult to open without spilling)?

If BNE-DPS is on a 787, I'd wager it should count as long haul. Not sure about the Pacific routes though.

I would have thought the same about LH v SH and of course you're right about that cuplet.

Disagree. I'd assume long haul is anything (other than domestic tag flights) flown by a widebody (787 or A330). Anything flown by A320 not (eg ADL-DPS). But maybe I am being too cynical.

the fleet guide says longhaul is 787 and A332.

Having done BNE-DPS on the 787 and bought the starter kit, yes, its the long haul option.
Cuplet is a fancy way to say a cup of water, which they graciously refilled at no charge.
Whether or not it had a cover.. its a trivial detail that my brain just can't handle.

While I have some members on the thread, does Gold status get us access to a lounge in DPS before we fly home?

So, after an interesting twitter DM conversation I'm kinda none the wiser and wiser. What an achievement.

As pointed out by markis10 Jetstar's website clearly states that 787 is LH only, and LH gets a hot meal.

But... when placing a dummy booking this morning for BNE-DPS I noticed that it says $10 inflight F&B voucher. When I changed destination to HNL it says meal included. So 787s do SH as well, or it's only some LH that get a meal.

Best bit was when I said in the DM that I could now see that it was $10 F&B voucher for our bundle, I was told that we'd chosen points so wouldn't get a voucher. I said that's points or $15 rewards voucher and that the F&B voucher is separate in the bundle but just got same response, you've chosen points, you don't get a voucher.

They're morning and overnight flights so it'll be beer and pretzels for us. Who knows if those boarding passes will show the F&B voucher or not...

Tbh, Jetstar's Social Media Team are quite hopeless. They don't seem to have a personality or some kind of freedom when responding to tweets.

When a question becomes too hard they suggest to call the Contact Centre or reply with some kind of templated response, kind of defeats the purpose of Social Media .

So BNE-DPS at 2789 miles* is short-haul, but...
MEL-DPS at 2719 miles* is long-haul.

We're back and we got meals in both directions.

Quite surprised when they came up to us on the flight over and asked us what we wanted to eat We each had a different option and the meal wasn't bad at all. We both declined the meal coming back. 12.45 am - "Do you want the chicken or the beef?" "Neither thanks, we don't need a meal." "Would you like a complimentary water instead?" "Yes, please."

It looked like most other people went the water option as well. Both of us would have preferred some more breakfasty an hour out of Brisbane.

The flight was slightly delayed in both directions. Not having flown Jetstar international before were amazed to find ourselves walking out onto the tarmac in the pouring rain (it was Cyclone Marcia Saturday). Everyone was drenched we they go on board.

I didn't notice the plane was that much quieter than our recent 744 flight to HKG. The window shades were a gimmick. Room was ok, IFE was ok. I used my own headphones.

The truly sad part is they did used to have a presence on AFF, and it worked out quite nicely for them. Then, for whatever reason, they closed up shop and feel that not being available to answer questions is the route forward. I don't think if they did get a better team/policy all they'd receive are complaints, as Red Roo doesn't just get the cough but also the good rewarding stuff. So QF/JQ if you read this, you should come back to AFF and other platforms with a competent social media team who can answer questions and provide support. It'll be worth it!
