Has anyone found a reliable way to avoid CC fee? Current options include
1. POLI the entire amount. Doesnt appear to be available for partial e.g. Gift voucher then + POLI
Domestic Fees and Surcharges | Virgin Australia

2. Gift voucher the entire amount then receive residual. However, at the very bottom of the link above. it states
.... or call the guest contact centre with a gift voucher.

3. Under $50 rule seem to be related to redemptions?

Any thoughts?

I see your pain, so to speak.
I would love to keep supporting VA, but their CC fee (I can see no way to avoid it), is a lot on a cheapish fare.
My bank that my pay goes into, is not in Polipayments, so I have to pay $7.50 per booking. This is the same as (Air) NZ, also $7.50. Only way I guess to avoid the fee, is to open a bank account with a bank within the Polipayments group of eligible banks, and use only that account to book VA flights. Downside? A lot of banks charge a monthly fee, and Polipayments don't earn CC earn FF points.
If you have a true (credit) credit card, maybe paying $7.50 is a small price to pay to earn a 1
FF point per $1 spent or at 0.75:$1 spent to earn a few hundred VA FF points on paying for flight fares.
Even using Paypal, its also $7.50.
While flying QF might not be everyone's cup of tea, their fee to pay with a credit card from a debit Visa/Mastercard is only $2.50.
Edit: ING Direct (lucky me-didn't realise it was in the Polipayment system-does not charge a monthly fee), so maybe go and open an ING Direct Orange Visa Debit account, print out the form from their website, bring proof of id and go to Aust Post, and do proof if id there), then pay for VA flights with ING Direct.
Last time I looked, ING wasn't there. OR open a NAB visa debit account, also no monthly fees.
So, thats the way to avoid the (destartdly) VA CC fee.

I would use $50 voucher on all QF bookings. Or at least $50 anyway.

I have a POLI account, but as you said, you don't earn any points, nor do you have travel insurance etc.

It's been a long time since i did this but 3rd parties such as Zuji, do they pass on CC fee? and do you get SC, see your booking in your account, get to choose seats etc?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Ah, you do have a bank with Polipayments account.
Ok.
As has been moaned on here, why doesn't VA remove the CC fee, eh?
But what can we do?
Nowt!
Compared to the ogres at QF, VA also has a way to avert people from wanting to be their loyal customers. $7.50 per booking, ouch.
Zuji might be good, but I don't like getting spammed, ala Webjet!
Ok, will keep my dog mouth shut, and paws to myself now.
Edit: I would say, you will still get QF FF points and QF SC so long as you fly on the airline, or get VA FF points and VA SC if you fly with them, no matter where you made the booking, Zuji or Webjet or direct with the airline's website.

would be nice if at least they let us POLI partial amounts........

Actually not worth going 3rd party because you can't use NPX...

While not directly related to a redemption booking, I just wanted to share a data point on paying a ticket using a combination of a gift card and credit card. My gift card had less value than the cost of my flight so the remainder, some $35 or so, had to be paid with a credit card. For this $35 transaction I got slugged the $7.70 credit card fee. The fee represents about 22 per cent of the total purchase cost. That does seem a little excessive.

I agree, its crazy. And at the very least, shouldn't virgin credit cards be fee free?

yes this is silly. was $10 short of fare on gift card and site was trying to sting me for the $7.50 cc fee.

ideally should not charge for shortfalls under a certain threshold or allow muliple cards to be used.

Also agree about Virgin Cards being exempt .. if JQ can do it ...

Is it possible to use a voucher to book for someone else, without "transferring" the voucher to them?

The gift vouchers on Virgin are not the same. A new gift voucher is not created for the residual balance.

Buy the largest denomination gift voucher you think will get you through 6-12 months (note 12 month expiry) and you will only pay credit card surcharge on the last booking to use up the gift voucher. There is no rule where you don't pay the credit card surcharge if the payment is less than $50.

And I know some people are critical of the Qantas gift vouchers. They have their own advantage. You never pay a credit card using the guft voucher.

And with Virgin and Entertainment book you get $50 discount on a $1000 gift voucher. With you Qantas you get 10,000 QFF points on a $1000 gift voucher. I'll let you decide which is worth more.

Can i ask, those of you who have purchased virgin voucher through the entertainment book, I bought 1300 as a tester and i was charged 1235 then 65. I thought I was supposed to get 5% off?!!?

Anyone had this experience before?

I have purchased twice and each time it has been 5% off.

Sounds like an error

glad you guys think so too, i have emailed them. I hope they do reply. So annoying though....

Sounds crazy.... but call a travel agent.

If you call a real travel agent - book the flight and pay 2% merchandise fee.

It won't work online but if you call up and say please put me on VA xx_ on this day at this time here is my credit card cheers thanks bye it's almost quicker than doing it on the website.

I mainly use Poli for my flight purchases... However you can't change flights online when using this method.. One small downside.

Something to wary of when using POLI: I booked a paid usuing POLI last week for a MEL-CBR-MEL flight and thus avoiding the cc fee.
However, it turned out I could not fly on that day and had to cancel the flight. As it was paid for using POLI, I was unable to cancel the booking online and therefore had to call the call centre. Because I had to do this, it meant I got charged an extra $35 just by going through the call centre. Now I realise it was a saver fare and was quite prepared for the cancellation fee, but didn't realise this would be $110. But this soon turned into $155 once the fee for having to go through the call centre was applied.

they charged you a fee for something that could not be done online? I would call them again/send email and ask for a refund. On occasions where i have been unable to cancel online this has always been waived

What about Qantas cash and Virgin wallet cards are they not fee free? 1/2 point for dollar spent?
