The WP shadow

Not really. My flight last night rows 4/5 was full of gold bag tags and others who clearly don't fly much (based on conversation and such). In row 6 I got to enjoy a constant elbow in the ribs. Other platinums were in rows 10 and 14 based on BPs during boarding.

But the flight was completely full except for 5b and 7e, I think they upgraded.
 
Don't you select Row 4 at T-80? I always do...and I figure as Row 4 is not a guarantee to WP's but only to P1...anytime I get the shadow is a bonus. I am just happy sitting my preferred 4C :) (batting 18/18 to get 4C and 13/18 for shadows!)
 
I checked and decided to not bother. I was just amazed at the 3 or 4 gold bag tags who took row 4. Plus at least 3 people in row 5 who were obviously not experienced at flying. Anyway, I got home in the end. Also had a great chat with an excellent CSM.
 
On a recent flight I was sitting in my usual spot in 4C when I noticed a couple was sitting separately in 4B & 4E. At some point during the boarding the CSM came to the guy sitting next to me and said there are plenty of spare seats in the back if they would like to move. He said no thanks. Then when boarding finished 4F remained empty and the girl moved to sit there. Did the guy switched from 4B to 4E? No. After take off the CSM suggested again 2 seats together in the back and again the answer was negative. At that point I thought to myself, ok they probably had a massive fight on the way to the airport and now they don't want to sit together, fair enough. But I was wrong, they did talk during the flight and clearly were not angry at each other. So why this guy was so keen to stay in his seat, disturb me and the passenger in 4D while talking to his partner? I have no absolutely no idea.
It seems that some people decide to check in their brains together with their bags.

So people are determining others status by looking at bag tags? That's funny. I like the Emirates ones and use those. I don't like going to the bother of changing them. And this wouldn't even occur to MrP as he has other things on his mind when travelling. As long as he has space to put his kit up top that's all he bothers with. And others not exuding into his seat. Wouldn't occur to him to look at others tags and query their "right" to be there.

He could move right next to his partner instead of talking to her across the aisle and disturbing 2 pax sitting between them!

Then why did the CSA keep asking him whether he wanted to move to the back so they could sit together? Maybe he thought by asking that, meant he couldn't do as you suggested.

The person next to me could see very well that there was an empty seat next to his partner, he didn't need the CSM to point out the obvious. However he could not see what's going on a few rows back unless he got up from his seat (which he didn't).
It was very clear by his face expression the CSM was as puzzled as myself to why that couple chose to sit so far apart and talk loudly to each other, showing complete disregard to other pax sitting next to them, when they had a number of options to sit together.

Have never bothered using bag tags. If I look in some deep drawer I probably still have some silver ones - may attach them to myself to irritate other flying heavyweights :)

Talk about a rant. The bag tag is mentioned because that is the only indication of status. You will notice that I have not said gold QFF person but I have said gold bag tag. I explicitly HAVE NOT made a statement about the other person's status. True to the scientific method I have presented the evidence. That provides a true indication to the people reading about my level of knowledge about the status of the people. Sorry that you feel the need to needless rant about that, perhaps with some thought you'd realise that is actually a fair way to present the situation.

My comment is also not about over head locker space and it is not about an individually right to end up in a particular seat. It is simple another observation about how the qantas seat selection system seems to be broken currently, as per all the other information in this thread. But if you want to rant about rights, go talk to qantas they are the ones who have implemented a system that gives access to seating based on QFF status. Some indication that qantas at least believes some people don't have the right the be in certain seats.

Anyway, I shouldn't be surprised that you'd climb on your high horse to have a go at me.

Sorry, whose irritated b others? This about qantas' systems not other passenger. I provide information about something that happened on an aircraft entirely without judgement. And suddenly find myself being attacked with this sort of comment.

Let's be clear for those that are so quick to jump to the entirely wrong conclusion. The only thing that irritated me was the guy sticking his elbow in my ribs.

I love the irony of making a judgement comment because you imagine a judgement about someone else.
 
The point was that the people with gold bag tags may be platinums, P1s or CL. There are probably a lot of people who would not be bothered or flashy enough to have to put the highest status tag on their bag.

But the issue remains - why did the CSM keep asking them to move to the back if they wanted to sit together. That question implies there was a reason why they couldnt do it at the front.

I didn't do the ranting here. I said I/we don't bother with looking at tags to check someone else's status. Just a seat and space up top.
And I did keep my post impersonal and not address anyone in particular. Maybe check out your last line when you get the chance and see if that complies with the standards here.

Well lets look at the impersonal first sentence. As the only person who has mentioned bag tags colour recently, it doesn't take Einstein to work out who "people" might be. Then you follow up about "people" with a couple of little comments at "people".

Which is not what you actually wrote. Don't like showing off status bag tags, that would imply the other people in those rows who didn't have bag tags. Their presence in the row doesn't alter my observation about how seat selection doesn't seem to be working as it previously did.

Your variation now might be undone by not seeing those people in the premium boarding lane. Except we know premium boarding is pretty much a failure.

Maybe at least some of those pax don't like showing off status bag tags?

I observed premium boarding in MEL one morning. Passengers, who seemed to be from a lounge, specifically chose not to use the priority boarding lane because they didn't want to push in on those waiting in the general queue. Their brief couple of words to each other revealed they considered it bad manners to skip to the front.

Use of priority boarding is not an indication of status, but the decision not to use priority boarding may be an indication of manners.
