VA takes 100% of Tiger Australia

VA (in true VA style) has half coughd attempted regional. It's the big winner QF still has over them. Why fly a loss making airline on heavily populated routes when you can compete for the big dollars on monopoly regional routes?

It has a benefit of freeing up J config. aircraft currently being wasted on some regional routes (although I do enjoy that waste)!

To people wondering why VA would buy tiger, I highly doubt JB wants to buy tiger, however the benefits of Singaporean equity support obviously greatly outweighs the cost or purchasing and losses of tiger Australia.

Secondly, any legal peeps got any ideas of how the proposed short haul international routes will interact with the ANA and VA's majority foreign ownership?

I suspect that if Tiger Airways is to ever make a profit in Australia, they first need to change their image. Their brand is next to worthless when you consider that the majority of people would consider them a last-resort-airline. When you consider that JQ price beats them anyway, I don't see a reason to ever need to set foot onto a TT aircraft. If I want to fly on the cheap, there's JQ which doesn't have as awful a reputation.

I see a major re-branding of Tigerair, including a new name and livery on the horizon. Either that or they'll cease to exist in a few years.

Given that the planes are leased, the brand value is worthless, the business runs at a loss and considering the transaction cost, is JB simply buying the AOC? Buying the employees? Or simply buying the capacity to take the seats out of the market by shutting TT down?

Doubt he's shutting it down if he's announcing short haul international routes with it. How many planes do they have? And when will they get more I can't see them doing any international with what they've got.

Flew them again for the first time in a couple of years on Thursday MEL-PER and they were actually great. The brand can't be having that much of a negative affect if they are running load factors of 90% (my flight was pretty much 100% full.). The issue appears to be they are used as the last resort purely based on price (was the way for us with fares of $100 each way). So they are never the first choice for PAX. With 90% loads they must have incredibly small yields. One thing that can't come soon enough is te new terminal in MEL. With only the one cafe there prices are more extortionate than the main terminal, a coffee is the best part of $6! And it was an absolute mess with food scraps everywhere and not enough seats for everyone.

Agree entirely!

So many people relate tiger air to the CASA grounding a few years ago & subsequently identify the airline with toxic brand recognition.

VA will need a new name should they wish to have a successful LCC business.

If VA keep the same name , I would be surprised long term if this is successful for them.
