SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

leyy they may have indeed sent you to *A F Lounge - did you go up a set of stairs beside a glass walled elevator - turn right at top of stairs - then turn left into F section of lounge? Did the lounge look very very new? I do not even know where the new CA F Lounge is but I think you may have been misdirected which would be on par for help desks in Chinese airports - and the lounge you experienced as MT indicated is on par for Chinese Lounges.

Edit: leyy the old *A F Lounge had no bar at all - only a handful of drinks over on a side bench - so if you did indeed see a bar then I think it was the new CA F. Did it look at all like the pics in the link I posted. The shower rooms in new CA PVG F Lounge were large enough size wise but just no AC in there - it was like an oven the day I used it - as you say by the time you dressed post shower you were drenched in sweat again.

Scanning passport to get internet in PEK has been norm forever and a day - but not required in PVG. Yes to get shower they do take your BP for whatever reason. Just remember leyy you are in China - the land of complication and contradiction!

Yes, I took the escalators up. As soon as I got to the top it had a clear sign saying Air China First Class Lounge.

There is a separate bar right down the end of the lounge behind the dining area. The lounge itself is quite large and spacious lots of comfortable seating. It looked completely different to the link you attached Cruiser.

leyy I have sent you a pm with email and contact name within SQ Customer Service - please go to the effort of emailing them with your experiences in CA F Lounge in PEK - they do really want feedback from their premium pax.

Any experiences/recommendations on the SQ flights MEL-SIN-IST SQ208 -> SQ 392? SQ392 is a codeshare with Turkish Airlines: it is on SQ metal with SQ crew? I'd be connecting to TBS from IST. As this would be a *A flight could I book it online or by phone via SQ, and what currency is it likely to be charged in?

SQ392 will be on SQ metal and should have no problems booking directly with SQ. Even if it were a TK metal flight (its not), both the website and phone agents should have no problems picking it up for booking. For a round trip, since your origin is MEL, you'll be quoted and charged in AUD.

Thanks, mitwg. That answers my first question. What about the onward TK flight IST- TBS? In fact, I'm not returning directly to MEL, but planning to go on via LH from TBS - MUC - MRS, then (after a break in Provence) MRS - LHR and eventually LHR -SIN- MEL. All in June-July next year.

Since your onward is with TK the SQ website does not have the booking available since SQ do not fly there on their own metal. You may be able to book through the phone service since it should still be part of a code-share flight? I have no experience so can't help any further.

Expedia does have the flight listed as SQ - SQ - TK

Technically, even if the TK flight from IST-TBS does not have a SQ code, the SQ phone agents should be able to book you from MEL right through to TBS (or how else would they book you on *A awards?).

But given that the remainder of your itinerary is also fairly complex, would you rather not use a travel agent to book the whole thing in one go?

From latest Krisflyer News email:

Never heard of it - not that I would know though - anybody tried it or have info?

From Taittinger Web Site - Champagne Taittinger

More info here - Taittinger Prelude Grands Crus Champagne NV

Never had this but it looks like it's like grand cru version of the Taittinger. I'm a fan of this brand so I'm hoping this one is good. Bollinger will be missed if they phase it out however, as I love that and also the La Grand Annee.

This is the first I've heard of this change though. Haven't received anything from SQ in this regard yet so this must be very new. No KF emails yet and certainly wasn't in the recent SilverKris or PRIORITY updates.

It was listed on the J class menu in early Oct on the SFO route. The person flying commented it was a very nice drop.

I actually tried it when I was at Taittinger in Reims earlier this month. It was an excellent drop and I am very impressed SQ will be serving it in J.

SWMBO actually preferred it to the 2006 (line ball for me) but it definitely had the complexity of flavour and toastiness you might expect from a vintage champagne. Nothing on the Comtes de Champagne, but a thoroughly good drop nonetheless and definitely better than what most airlines are serving in J.

Well done SQ!

+1

Definitely a good change for SIA. Still got nothing on QR though with their Krug in the A380 J :(

Drank the bar dry....... of Perrier!
2 hours out from LHR in suites and CSM comes to apologise for lack of fizzy water...
CSM: "We're out of Perrier"
Duffa: "Do you still have Krug?"
CSM: "Of course"
Duffa: "Well then, I'll .... (glare from across the divider) .... just have a soda water or Coke thanks"

I sometimes wonder why I spend hours on this website?

Duffa I had to do that on a run to Los Angeles as I had to pick up the hire car on arrival. I try not to make mistakes like this.
You could try travelling a day ahead to avoid those icy stares as Krug,Dom the French red and the caviar are worth it.

Very excited to have booked my first F class (MEL-SIN) for January with Mrs B. Couldn't find availability out of SYD for Suites, or return flights, so 'only' J coming home. I'm quite happy in a perverse way to not do Suites on our first experience in F class, as we can save that for a full long haul to Paris later next year and not spoil the non suite F experience on this occasion. Needless to say, they will need to be well stocked in the Krug/Dom department or we will test the ability to drink them dry over a 7.5hr flight leaving at 4.45pm!!!!!!!

Ben6 16:45 is a GREAT time to dep SYD in SQ F - you will get the FULL dinner service plus plenty Dom / Krug - you both will have a ball!
