WP looking at a points upgrade request for International flight in July. Clearly requires having the points when putting in the request.

But what is the scenario should you think about using those "quarantined" points for upgrade requests prior to the July flight?

Would the original request disappear immediately or does the system only check again for point availability just prior to the trip?

The latter. You don't need enough points in your account to put in the request and a request does not reserve the points either. Go for it.

the system checks for points when you make a request and when your successful. As long as the points are in the account when making a request it's fine.

+3 to the above comments. You only need the minimum points for the specific flight upgrade at the time of that request. The system has no idea what other flight upgrades you have requested from the same QFF account.

Perfect. Now I can have some fun. Thanks guys. Just the answer I wanted. :p

Seems a bit of a silly system on Q's behalf. You'd think they'd block them. Let's hope it doesn't get enhanced. ;)

Another 20,000 points winging their way by Christmas thanks to Acquire, $50 and a pack of highlighters from Staples. With free delivery of course.

Just wondering if the upgrade comes through and the points disappear from the account at exactly the same time then?

The only important bit is for the points to be in the account when the award request is processed.

Yep. Just waiting for another 4000 points to accrue. Then an upgrade request for Syd-HKG for next July. Hopefully early notice will do the trick.

.....and for the PIN to be valid.

Also, if already overseas & waiting on an upgrade request to clear eg BKK/SYD it's no use having a Thai sim card in your phone if the airline is trying to contact you on your Aussie mobile because you've advised the wrong PIN & haven't given the airline your Thai mobile nbr.
