Flying done for another membership year.
I am promising myself a life next year.
For every Sydney F loune experience there's a price to pay in domestic lounge toasties...[h=2]Membership Status[/h]Current Status: Platinum One

[h=2]Retain Platinum One[/h]To retain Platinum One, you must earn a minimum of 3,600 Status credits, with at least 2,700 earned on Qantas marketed flights where Status credits normally accrue.
Total Status credits earned from 01 Oct 2013: 6,685
Status credits earned on eligible Qantas marketed flights from 01 Oct 2013: 5,760

Wow, that's certainly an epic run!

How did you do it? Lots of little work trips? A few RTW trips in first/business?

Wow! That sounds very tiring! Hopefully at least some of it was for pleasure and not work.

That's a lot of flying! And I though I have no life :D
Are you doing it mostly in Y or J?
How is your op-up success rate as P1?

Wow

That's a massive amount of flying one wonders how many points earned and how you use them? :)

Awesome! How much of that was in whY?

Not sure of your total spend, but has QF spoken to you about CL?

I wish!!!! Even just for a change of lounge scenery. I've lost time of the number of calls to loved ones that start 'Hi, I'm in the lounge.' The company I look after spends CL level $ on travel, but we are a subsidiary of a larger company so this gets subsumed in the corporate programme when it comes to CL recognition.

To answer the questions:

A lot in WHY domestically - that's a lot of East/West Coast return in 23b (at least 3 per month) - but I will fly J if its an evening flight. The company will pay for this, but I usually use points to upgrade to send the right signal re costs. Always Y on short haul
.
The points kicker is J international. I lose track, but numerous visits to Latin America and South Africa. These really add up quickly. I've just come back from an RTW Oz -South Africa- UK-Spain-Chile OZ, with numerous internal flights that probably would have got close to a platinum card by itself in terms of earn.

FF points earn is good and usually goes on a couple of J tickets to Europe and a holiday every year (I clearly have not had enough of flying!!).

Quality of life can be strained, but you become adept at living what is essentially a nomadic existence and get very 'zen' re flying in that you hardly notice you are in the air.

Upgrade success is not where I'd expect it to be for the amount I spend and fly. This can be route specific as I'm at 75% on the Perth-Newman route, but much less on the East/West routes. It's not regular enough to gamble on when I need some quality time to sleep or work. I did get a J to F from Dubai to Sydney once and really enjoyed that.

I get to sample more flights than most and would say that the high points have all been relative to the great crews that QF employ. I've had many memorable flights when the banter has been superb and the service outstanding. The biggest grumble is the inconsistency of the hard product. You rarely know what you will get. I hope this gets resolved with the A330 upgrades.

The First World problem is 'oh no not again' moment when you have the same J menu too many times in one month.

Probably better to have the 'oh no not again' moment a catering one rather than a repeat of that FIFO nutter with a fondness for spraying perfume on you.

Well remembered!!!
I suppose that I should be thankful that in all the flying I do that's the closest I've seen to air rage.

Well done.

Sounds like you have a great job that would make a lot of people jealous.

I've gone from almost weekly flying to almost zero. For all the disruption, I'd rather have your job Canny Man.

I must admit to still getting a thrill of anticipation when planning a long haul and getting itchy feet if I've got to spend more than 10 days on the ground. I'm preaching to the converted on this forum, but flying is such fun if you know what you are doing.

If you are gong to maintain that degree of flying why not join BA executive club, become Gold Guest List and at 35000 lifetime tier credits you will have BA gold for life (equivalent of Qantas Platinum). Must register account with a friend overseas as BA do not accept Australian registrations. BA also do not penalise you for flying on many other one world airlines.

Wow, impressive! :)

Wish I could find myself a job with that much flying... though yesterday I actually fell asleep down the back of SYD J lounge I was so tired :p

There are few jobs with this much flying....except flight crew and pilots. Ironically there have been a few months where I've exceeded allowable crew hours in the air!!!

Guess that would be a lot of AA miles rather than QF miles if you travel a lot in international J.
Maybe if you earn AA miles you can afford not only to fly to play golf but also bring your caddy with you.
