That's awesome - I had googled trying to find out exactly that!

When / where was it announced ?

markis10 likely knows when and where (link) is the press release. It was announced in the vicinity of the merger since of course the FFP was one of the biggest points (pun intended) that needed explaining as a result of the merger (in some ways the same parties somewhat learning or in the wake of the mergers of UA and CO).

It was in a NY times article where they were interviewing both CEOs, over a year ago.

I don't know how to link back to it but this is what I posted May last year in another thread.

From New York Times 10 April 2013

http://travel.nytimes.com/2013/04/14/travel/if-american-airlines-and-us-airways-merge-what-should-fliers-expect.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

American Airlines plans to keep its loyalty program, AAdvantage. That means the US Airways program, Dividend Miles, will be dissolved, and its members will be absorbed into AAdvantage. Mr. Parker said there would be a one-to-one transfer of miles (one Dividend mile will equal one AAdvantage mile), swelling American’s program to more than 100 million members.

That's great - I'll be loading up on points for the next 6 months by the looks of things

AA seems to be a bit of devaluation from USDM, hopefully it doesn't go further - especially for intra-aus travel

While harder to get AA points, not sure I agree on the burn side. Each program has their sweet spots for sure but overall am not sure there is that much difference (and we expect they will eventually align anyway).

I guess it depends on what you want to use them for. For me it is intra-aus J flights.

As well as a flexible return trip to Europe with a stopover

Either way - the acquiring of USDM is easier and cheaper - so even if a return J flight is 35000 pts - it is still a smoking deal (and I can save half the cost of the points by booking online and saving a call

As certain as you are going to get it given its an on record statement by an American CEO

I guess he could renege on it, or immediately jack up redemption prices, but eh......

Is that a certainty the conversion will occur at 1:1?

It's a moot point at the end of the day. They could go "sure, 1:1" then release a new awards chart the next day with devaluation. It's unlikely, because AA members will be peeved, but not impossible.

I would participate in this offer if I were planning to use miles sooner rather than just banking them in my account.

Does anyone know how long it takes for gifting to post? I just gifted my wife 40k+40k. Apparently its only showing up as 40k and when she click her account it only shows 40k... Should I be concerned?

How long for miles to post?, mine arrived within a few minutes Mrs Lime's done at same time not in her account after 30 mins.

Update,
The funds have been taken from her CC, just seems odd her miles have not arrived.
