So have been a WP for one year now (just renewed) and looking back over the experience, it has (besides the Flounge) been nothing amazing. Got one op up (BKK-SYD) from emirates, but other than that I can't see the huge difference between SG and WP. Perhaps I am missing something.

Count your blessings. 1 op-up is one more than I've received in about 7 years as a WP! Mind you, I usually am in J on QFi, so being punted to F may be a bit hopeful ... but just one would be nice. :)

Work has a policy of discount economy always so no J for me (although am taking mrs colster J to HKG/REP in a couple if weeks for her 40th).
The EK upgrade was very nice :-)

Row 4 seat selection on 738 T-80.
Status bonus.
Higher up the food chain for upgrades.
OWE is very handy when traveling OS on other One World carriers.
Ohh yea and as you mentioned, the FL :)

All this and :
CSM greetings on QFi, CX and a few others (personally I think it's a nice touch and usually get given noise cancelling headsets, evian water on CX when in Y )

Express security cards at most airports when flying OW/EK

Priority boarding

Extra baggage allowance even on OW

So I guess if you're only doing domestic its probably not that much better than gold however for international QF and OW fights its worth its weight in gold (excuse the pun :)

Gold is really the benchmark esp for overseas travel. The avoidance of queues at airports is fabulous.

I haven't been Gold for a long time but some of the Platinum benefits have been invaluable the past 7 years

- Seat selection
- Luggage allowance
- Access to better lounges
- Status bonus
- Arrivals lounge access
- Award seats released where no availability
- Ability to sit in higher cabin where that cabin was not sold on that flight
- Offered drinks and other items onboard
- Express passes

A shame a few benefits have disappeared in that time as well

Enjoy REP, having just returned from there it was a real treat to visiting Angkor Wat and the many other Wats (temples) that scatter around Siem Reap. I was truly gobsmacked by the stone carvings that the Cambodians created almost 1,000 years ago describing in immense detail the life and story at that time, definitely get a private guide as they will tell you many many things that others visitors just walked past.

When I was a WP for the standard year a few years back I received 4 op-ups on BA, twice each to J and Y+. After that I decided that I would try as best as I can to fly J/F long haul so that status is generally irrelevant if flying J/F. Flights to/from Asia I am OK to just fly budget/LCC which I do, eg. just completed six flights with Air Asia ;) But to/from Europe, if would take a lot of persuasion for me to go in anything less than J nowadays even if having elite status to make it slightly bearable on the ground.

Same here (or rather work's policy is cheapest available Y).

Just started my 3rd year as WP, the vast majority of my travel is DOM. Best bits for me:

1. Priority WP line - for those frequent rebookings due to QF's rationalisation of peak MEL-SYD (and vice-versa)
2. Better Lounge Access - though that was diluted in MEL for quite a chunk of the Membership year due to the C:L refurb
3. Priority Boarding - when the FAs can be bothered

Regards,

BD

Unfortunately, sometimes you don't appreciate what you have until you lose it. I had been Gold for many yeas and then dropped back to Bronze - just at a time when I began to travel more. It was a woeful experience - sitting in airport terminals - expensive drinks and food - no status and no benefits. Fortunately I have been WP now for 12 months and I dread going backwards.

The benefits - including one upgrade from PE to J were appreciated - however, it easy to overlook the other benefits including: quicker access on 131313; Business Lounge and F Lounge access; CSM service; the benefits of OW; and extra luggage (especially reduces arguments with my wife). For routine business trips it makes it easier - for international flights it allows you to enjoy the benefits that you could not normally afford or gain access to. It also makes me take extra care with planning of flights - in order to maintain status - which I think has resulted in better value for eh $ I spend on travel. And one further benefit - is that I make a greater effort to travel for my holidays - do more and see more.

We did HKG/DXB in J, then DXB/VIE return in Y, EK gave us both OP UPS both ways on the latter from Y to J, most welcome it was.

Hmm perhaps I should ask Emirates for a status match and then fly EK internationally and QF code shares domestically. Anyone done this and if so what the results are?

Tried that. Emirates refused a status match to any level of skywards, despite initially offering match of WP to silver. Really enforces that your are only a WP after all.

Given that an EK fare in F or J to europe can be thousand of dollars cheaper if booked thru Emirates direct rather than thru Qantas on the same physical aircraft, one has to wonder what's the point of Qantas loyalty?
