Sitting here in the Cathay lounge in Manila, which is mediocre by any standard, I had to exit the lounge and go for a walk to use the facilities, no big deal I can use the exercise.

Last week I was in terminal 2 of Manila international airport where my wife had to stand in line for 25 minutes to use ladies rest room, the one and only one available for use in the terminal airside, where there wasn't any running water.

My job takes me all over this beautiful world we live in, so I have travelled in and out of some horrid airports in West Africa, where I think they should relocate this airport to.

Has anyone been to anywhere more horrid?

cheers,

I think the CX lounges at BKK also have external WCs?

Worst airport I have been in is the old low cost terminal at Kuala Lumpur. No queue for the WCs but pretty squalid. And the rest of the terminal was pretty dire.

Mediocre is too kind a word to describe Manila airport. Numerous surveys have labelled it one of the worst in the world.

There's hope private enterprise will improve the facilities. More info here:

I would have thought the ADB with HQ in Manila would have had keen interest to see improvements to the airport and offered funding. Infrastructure projects should be supported by government IMO.

CX and a number of other internatioinal airlines such as SQ and DL have or are finally moving to Manila's Terminal 3 between August and November 2014, which being much more recent is vastly superior to the horrid T1. Sadly QF will remain in T1.

The analysis by media and others of 'Manila Airport' is really about T1. T3 is acceptable, T2 is basic and boring (Philippine Airlines) and T4 is small, but efficient because one can exit quickly from this smallest of the four terminals.

Let's not forget that a decade ago MNL was less busy than MEL: now it is (not by a lot) busier. It has a larger number of international passengers than MEL.

Haikou airport with it's toilets that stink of urine and cigarette smoke is not a place I wish to return to anytime soon.
