Unfortunately gone are the days where I was able to hit Gold status in 6-7 months, the work travel has dried up and I've had to pay for my membership the last few years.

I had always thought my re-join date was at the end of July, I was mistaken. I got a letter in the mail last nights asking me to join back up. I grabbed the letter and read a section "To avoid the re-join fee, please reply to this letter within 2 weeks" I looked at the date on the letter "5th August" looked at my phone and realised it was the 20th, I then looked at the stamp on the envelope and it said the 14th.

So it's taken Qantas 9 days from the letter to stick it in the post, and its taken me an additional 6 days to receive it. I had every intention of re-joining, but want to know fellow fliers what are my chances of avoiding the re-join fee ?

I have the envelope with the post stamp on it too.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Luckily there's a sale on at the moment and they are waiving the joining fee anyway.

The smart business decision for QF is to sign you up again and not squabble over the fee. They get an immediate cash injection from the membership and can count on you booking revenue flights to get value out of the membership.

Alternatively they could play hard ball, p!ss you off and get neither the renewal $ or the flight $.

Seems like an easy one... But we are talking about the airline who brought you an enhanced loyalty program that just p!ssed people off, so who knows!

Just as an aside, how much is one year membership worth these days ? I think I can do it via the website and it does not appear to be adding the joining fee.
