More flights to Hawaii

Good to see QF mainline increasing flight frequency to HNL - so much for the doomsayers who have been predicting for years that QF would drop HNL.

Bottom line is: if a route makes money for QF, they will keep flying it - or in this case, increase frequency and capacity.

About time Qantas woke up and started getting on with business! Article should read, "It will also switch to ageing A330 aircraft from an ancient 767."

I'm betting HA will move in on MEL in the next year.

Both products that QF use on the route (767 and 330) have a greater amount of room compared to what HA call "first" and use on this route. Funny how people forget that.

The article the OP cites does actually say that the 767 is to be replaced by the A330.

The extra space on the QF 763 compared to the HA A330 is marginal and on average QF charge almost double HA for that privilege. I especially enjoy the QF loop entertainment on a 5 inch screen :!: Anyway, soon to be a thing of the past but it's been a very long time coming. I fly QFi so rarely now that I will enjoy the novelty when I finally get on an A330 to HNL.

50 inches to 44 inches isn't marginal.

I was having a look at award availability on the QF site & noticed quite a few flights next year had 2 U class seats available for Classic Awards on QF (or any other freq flyer program that uses QF for that matter). BNE or SYD to HNL in J was 72,000 points plus cash of AUD350.00 ish. JQ Star Class for the same trip 57,600 points plus AUD241.92 in airline fees, surcharges, levies & taxes etc etc.

Some claim QF B763 is 50" but it's actually more like 48" whereas HA A330 is 46" but whose counting ;)

Some claim? I have never seen the dreamtime pitch as 48 inches ever, I have just checked and alas the number seems to be 50 inches.

You may not have seen it, but I have measured it, depends just where you measure it but let's just say 50 is a stretch.

For those who have forgotten it, here it is in all it's glory.

Seriously ? You got on board with a tape measure and measured the pitch ??!!!

Oh, and the 767s to HNL have been using iPads in J for the last 18 months or so, not the small in-armrest screens.

I know the Qantas 330 is newer than the 767, but what are the other differences, seat and entertainment wise?
I am going in Nov and ticket says A330, booked in econ but have an upgrade request in as well.
Is Business a Skybed?

Yes, Business on the A330s is the Skybed I (the first version with the slight angle). Eventually will be the new Business (completely flat bed) suites, but it will take about two years for the whole A330 fleet to be reconfigured.

The entertainment system is a huge improvement on the 767s. Lots of options.

The A330s take over from the 767s on the HNL route from 14 September.

Interestingly there is a combination of A332 and A333 aircraft in the timetable around the x-mas period. $10,500 for business class. Ouch!

Did the F/As ask what you were doing?

Actually the story is that Mrs MIB carries one of those little plastic measuring tapes with her various knitting type activities and on occassion I have used it to measure the seat pitch. I doubt the FA's would have noticed. (or cared) They frequently spend a great deal of time talking to my wife about her knitting though, it's still a very popular hobby.
