MH to be Privatised [delisted]

Bet investors will be lining up to buy into that one....

So on the face of it, the Govt will sell of its share to a State run organisation...

Sounds logical... Or who else owned the 30%???
 
So what effect (if any) does everyone feel this development might have on the Enrich program and for those with significant points stored with MAS?

Is it time to hold, or quickly use the points on a future flight booking before things possibly change?
 
MH delisted

It's all an unknown right now. Obviously people want them to survive but the situation is dire. If you're expecting to use your Enrich points sometime in the near future then it is probably ok, longer term I think we have all seen this before.. for myself it's usually transfer from Amex and book immediately with them a week before the flight. Hopefully I get another chance to fly their F product again before who know what happens.
 
There'll probably be another Enrich redemption sale at the end of this year to reduce the liability of those points.

Say I had a couple of return J tickets booked through Enrich MEL-AMS return for mid next year and MH decided to cut the AMS route, what would happen to my ticket ?
Would they automatically reroute me via LHR then onto AMS on BA ? Or is that just my wishful thinking lol ?
Is it something I most likely have to "chase up" ? What's the usual protocol and what rights would I have, if any, in this sort of circumstance, and what tends to be the outcome typically ?

Any thoughts and comments appreciated.

Also just to add is there any website or other publically available source where I can check percentage yields so I can see how AMS compared to unprofitable routes such as FRA which was mentioned in the above linked WSJ article ?
 
So apparently MH wants to concentrate their efforts on "regional" routes and cut some long haul, but I just received an SMS saying they cancelled my morning HKG-KUL flight on Tuesday. They want to put me on a flight 5 hours later...
Looks like their new strategy is bound to fail or maybe regional only means domestic:confused:

Or possibly canceling flights so 2 not so full flights becomes one flight with a better use of resources.

I understand and when I don't care about timing I sometimes book LCC like 3K, but I usually book on legacy/full service airlines when I want to leave on time. Leaving HKG at 8AM or 1PM is not the same thing. This might be completely unrelated and I have been unlucky, but I don't feel like giving MH a lot of business in the near future. I just booked an overpriced CX ticket to be able to leave in the morning...

I think you will find that canceling flights due to low loads isn't necessarily a LCC move. I think it is probably more bad luck compared to anything.
 
You'd have imagine that this airline will need to instigate a whole raft of enhancements (including ones that will inconvenience passengers) to survive.

They have a mighty job ahead of them. Poor old QF has to do the same thing without Gov or chapter 11 protection.
 
On the MH website press release about the changes it makes mention that they will remain in Oneworld which is good especially for people that have future bookings!

How could they do something like you mention above, yet on their website still say this ?

It's a smart and not unexpected move, it will keep them flying on lessor routes and take their financial performance out of the public eye.

All I can say doubling travel agent commission from 6% to 12% in .au will not help IF Skyscanner shows MH more expensive than Emirates or QF, as is mostly the case now. Their yield management engine is either broken, or they have some other 'arrangement' not to discount - Unless they intend chopping Australia out. If not they better check they are in the 'race' or 'ballpark'. Go midweek and get 5 rows to yourself is a good point though.

I flew KUL-CGK and the flight was 100% full, so I guess there are some profitable regional routes. The question is, can an airline survive doing only KUL-CGK:p
