With the results due Aug 28, what's your speculation on any announcements?

Will the QF sale act get another mention.
Will the loss be higher across all divisions.
What will be this years four pillars?

They have made an accounting profit since nobody expected them to ever pay back any money owed, hence they wrote off the debt. Qantas closes the next day.

I think its losses will have narrowed to a smaller sum compared with last year.
Also I expect QF dom to make a loss and QFi to breakeven.

And I do know what AJ will say: or one of his CFO/etc,
That Qantas has determined not to give any "Guidance" meaning, no dividend, (as we all know, no dividend for the forseeable future).

Revenues down (because of the nasty foreigners)

Cash reserves down (because the nasty government made them dip into their reserves)

Jetstar International loss (because of the nasty foreign governments protecting their own)

Qantas International loss (because the nasty government allows nasty foreign airlines to carry nasty Australians including that doubly-duplicitous nasty, nasty foreign airline the cuddly kangaroo invited to a barbie)

Jetconnect slight loss (because the nasty kiwis won't listen to the nice cuddly Kangaroo)

Qantas Domestic break-even (because the sweet innocent domestic carrier decided to abandon the nasty capacity war with the nasty foreign-owned domestic competitor)

Jetstar Domestic profit, albeit reduced (because the nasty domestic carrier has a product even worse than anything we can come up with)

Pillar 1: Domestic to continue to drive revenues up through the reduction of capacity whilst reducing the age of the domestic fleet

Pillar 2: Continue the very successful two-brand strategy

Pillar 3: Continue to leverage the very success Galaxy-beating, totally in-synch, wonderous Alliance with our complimentary very-equal, never nasty, foreign Partner (ignore all figures in the Financial Report)

Pillar 4: Reduce costs by selling anything and everything and sacking everyone except AJ who is, after all, the only true-blue Qantas-loving Australian on the planet.

Regards,

BD

Executive summary : Nasty

Where's that Qantas results drinking game that was put on Facebook 6 months ago? I think it was Liam R that made it. It was hilarious.

Maybe CX could buy part of QF.
CX wants more AU-HKG traffic rights, buying into QF would allow them to make use of the AU side of the bilateral. It might also stop whatever is "preventing" JQ HKG starting.

I think CX would be the best fit for an investor in QF that could really add value to QF and also keep customers happy with good products/service.

QF could then have a proper Asia partner, more domestic feed from CX, more frequency of flights out of Aust with QF codeshares on CX aircraft, imagine being able to book on any one of 3-4 flights to HKG in a day...

This Aspire Aviation article gives some good background:

Qantas faces defining moment | Aspire Aviation

Some of it familiar to readers of various threads here.

The talk in that Aspire Aviation piece about an expanded Sydney Connect service is interesting. Expanding to CTU and KMG, for instance, in Asia and GRU and GIG, for instance, in South America to allow better connections from Asia to South America (and vice versa) via SYD.

Today's Latest & Breaking News Melbourne, Victoria | The Age had an article about possible part foreign ownership of QF. It speculated that the announced group full year 'underlying' group pre tax loss would be A$700 million.

At least one previous article suggested 'in excess of $1 billion':

Qantas predicts another airline will buy in now restrictions are looser

Qantas loss could break billion barrier

AJ & Co had forgotten the old saying; "Be careful what you wish for."

They now need to talk up the 'potential partner' line and hope it flushes one out otherwise all spin doctoring about the limit on foreign ownership causing them to be in such a dire position, and "foreign airlines are held back by the ownership provisions" is shown up to be totally false.

I know of one group that hawked around the opportunity to circumvent the ownership provisions through an Australian holding company with different classes of equity, voting rights and security (hybrid structures) for overseas owners (similar to Murdoch's structure but with a clever twist).

Not one expression of interest by any overseas group let alone an overseas airline.

AJ may be hoping the BFT works.

BFT = Bigger Fool Theory

AIRNZ will buy in so they can show QF how to make a profit :).
