Just announced on the ASX:

Air New Zealand welcomes the decision today by the New Zealand Minister of
Transport to approve the alliance between Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines.

“It’s very pleasing to receive regulatory approval for this alliance which will enable us to
grow our network with operations between Auckland and Singapore in the very near
future,” says Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Christopher Luxon.

“We look forward to working with our colleagues at Singapore Airlines to boost
capacity between New Zealand and Singapore which will deliver some great benefits
to our customers and other stakeholders in the New Zealand tourism industry,” says
Mr Luxon.

The approval follows the clearance of the alliance by the Competition Commission of
Singapore.

The two carriers will announce on sale and operational dates for alliance services
shortly.

Thanks for posting that.

Can anyone help me with the background to this?

NZ and SQ are both Star Alliance, so I'm wondering the nature of any further 'alliance'? I'm guessing the NZ Regulator was looking at the possibility of price increases with any further closer co-operation?

NZ returning to SIN-AKL route with daily service. SQ reducing AKL-SIN services to single daily, but upgauging to A380 and retaining CHC-SIN. NZ and SQ codesharing on each others services between SIN & NZ, I assume will also see some SQ codesharing on NZ domestic and NZ codesharing on SQ intra-asia flights.

Thank goodness! I think NZ is overdue for this.

I wonder what equipment they will put on the route.
