Had three nights here last week, and to be frank it was three nights too many. While it is slightly more expensive than the Ibis Budget just down the road, you don't get much more for your money. The hotel is very old and despite a refurbishment in recent years, shows it's age.

It's located on top of the Kings Cross station opposite the Holiday Inn, however because of its age it's not very soundproof. If you get an easterly room, expect little sleep. I was on one of the higher floors and the noise at 2AM was not great.

I moved to a harbour view room which was very quiet for the last night, and if contemplating staying there this would be the minimum recommended room to book. I found the reception team very slow, and I am still waiting on my Le Club points.

Many of the hotels in the area have been bought by developers for conversion to apartments, this property is slated for the same fate, in the meantime it offers an average stay for an average price if you get a harbour view, and an expensive stay for no rest if you get an eastern facing room.

From memory, this property was the Crest Hotel, at one time owned by same family which owns Coogee Bay Hotel.

The hotel entrance, which used to be on Darlinghurst Road, is now Victoria Road.

I suppose with tougher policing of liquor venues in Kings X area, noise levels presently are lower than before.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I've never stayed at this property but have lived in the area for some time.

This hotel was the Crest Hotel years ago and was in poor shape. It closed for a renovation to become the Chifley Hotel for a few years. This then closed a few years ago to be reborn as Mercure Potts Point.

It hasn't really enjoyed much success, probably due to it's location. You can easily see the hotel from the Fitness First gym across the street, and at night most rooms appear to be empty.

As a side note - directly outside the hotel entrance is where the notorious "one-punch" deaths happened in Kings Cross that brought about the curfew in Sydney.

I would choose a hotel in area away from King X.

I find the area fine, no different to the valley in BNE, then again you won't find me clubbing or out when others are. The Holiday Inn could be located in the country for how quiet the rooms are, and the view is brilliant.

I stayed regularly in the X area up until 1984. There was somewhat of excitement around that time. (Well, I was 30 years younger then)

I stay at the HI quite frequently, always upgraded to the harbour side with view. Very quiet. The one occasion I stayed at the Mecure wasn't terribly restful.
