Trying to work out the most economic method in taking my wife for our wedding anniversary next year. I currently have 400k points with VA and will have an additional 100k points with Amex MR by this time next year.
What I have looked at is following:
Brisbane Abu Dhabi Cost ~$1500 plus upgrade for platinum to Business 45k points either VA or EY
Couple nights in Abu Dhabi then
Abu Dhabi to Paris with reward flights at 70k points (equivalent 5259km) whoever I can get reward flight on
A month in France (with side visits)
Paris to New York reward flight at 82k points (equivalent 5840km) again whoever I can get on probably Delta
One week in NY then crosscountry to LA using say Delta upgrade to comfort class
LA to Brisbane ~$1200 plus 45,000 points upgrade for Platinum to Business.

All up this will cost 242k points per person plus approximately $3000.

The interesting point is to convert the actual cost business class to $/pt I work out at around $0.09 per point for this type of trip.

Anyone got any suggestions how to improve upon this with the stayover options critically being in Europe and NY. I dont really have a desire to stopover in AD or LA as they are not on my bucket list.

You can only upgrade with points on VA marketed and operated flights only ( and you need to be SG or PL) - EY operate out of Brisbane so only a reward seat option

DL would be your best option from PAR, the only other alternatives would be to back track to AUH and go on EY or make way over to LHR and use VS to NYC

Thanks for pointing that out. Are my working out of rewards points required correct then. I want to make sure I dont underestimate points needed.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
