Hi All
Im wondering if i can ask for some thoughts.
Im going to be travelling with LAN, SCL-AKL-SYD-WGA, and am planning to take some excess baggage, im relocating back to Aus. I will have 1 or 2 pieces more than the allowance. Ill pay the excess fees, no issues there, but has anyone had any experience with LAN in SCL accepting excess baggage? The last thing Id like to have happen is for the checkin staff to not accept the bags in the airport and for me to have to work out what to do with them just before leaving a country! Im assuming that Ill be able to check them through to WGA (ive done it the other way) but ill be checking that with QF when I make the booking.
Let me know if you think ill have issues!
Thanks.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Should be no issues checking bags through since its all *O flights (provided your connection is legal).

What class are you flying and do you have any FF status?

I have a stack of points to use so think ill try for Premium Business. I have gold status but on LAN it doesnt have as much street cred as it does with other oneworld airlines, though it might with the Business ticket, not sure!

Thanks for the info.

I don't know how far away from SCL airport you are but it may be worth making a special trip out there to ask them these questions which may affect how you pack which you need to know in advance not when you arrive at the airport with all your stuff.

I really wouldn't bother calling reservations because it doesn't matter which airline you ring, a lot of the time you will receive incorrect information so I would only rely on what airport staff tell you about excess bag costs & heavy fees. Saying "but they told me over the phone that...." won't cut it.

Double check your baggage allowance on the copy of your electronic ticket but I would think it would be two pieces. Being a LAN Gold member should give you an extra piece.

As the piece system applies between South America & Australia & vv excess is paid per piece not the kilo so the questions are:

a) what do LAN charge for an extra piece when multiple carriers are involved ie bag tagged SCL LA AKL LA SYD QF WGA (usually a higher amount per piece)

b) what do LAN charge for an extra piece when travelling 100% with LAN ie bag tagged SCL LA AKL LA SYD only. Note that you would need to recheck the bags in SYD to WGA so any savings may be negated if you are charged again by QF.

I have gold status but on LAN it doesnt have as much street cred as it does with other oneworld airlines, though it might with the Business ticket, not sure!

Being a gold member may allow your bags to weigh up to 32kg per bag otherwise some airlines will charge heavy fees eg USD75.00 per bag if your bag weighs 24-32 kgs.
