Somewhere around 1300 there was an EY 777 sitting at the end of the N/S runway, looked like it was waiting to depart but sat there a long time. Didn't have time to wait and see it depart. Looked on flight radar ten mins later and couldn't see it anywhere within 30 mins of melb!

I then consulted Dr Google and couldn't see a scheduled departure of an EY flight at that time.

Any ideas or has Dr Google let me down?

No, there are often heavies that sit out in that exact area. I believe they are parked out there after unloading, until their next flight. They aren't actually on the taxiway. I would imagine the "red" beacon would be flashing if it was moving.
Also, I have found it is usually a QF A380 parked out there from mid morning.

Its another remote park. I often see the Brunei 787 (prior to that the 777) sitting out there on mid morning arrivals from SYD.

I've also seen an EY A340 out there too.

Yeah the Brunei 787 is out there a lot. I guess it must be cheaper than putting it on the int'l standoff bays for hours.

Thanks for the replies. It just struck me as close to the end of the runway but depth perception can be warped I guess.

I believe there is limited space available due to the works going on, down near the new terminal. REX has to bus passengers out to remote spots too
