Got operationally upgraded today, EK302 DXB-PVG, Y to J.

Was on Flex ticket with Gold status.

Was expecting it, flight had sold out in Y for a 3 day period about 2 weeks ago, then had tickets on offer since, with a lot of un-allocated J seats and no F seats allocated T24 hours. However with 34 un-allocated Y seats I had my doubts and concerns I was going to remain in a crammed Y cabin.

Got to the gate and the checking agent didn't say anything, just reprinted my boarding pass and handed to me, not confirming I had been upgraded even though I asked him as a little confused why he was otherwise reprinting my pass. I confirmed such off the newly minted pass.

Not a spare seat left in J cabin, got put in 21J

THIS! Self: fist bump, hi five, moon walk, back spin, squeal, one fist push up, champagne, smile, the best, <everyotheremotion>...

Op-up from Y to J on EK75 (DXB-CDG) yesterday, booked on the QF codeshare, for me, a WP, and my two NB travelling companions. Got Y boarding passing when checking in in MEL, and then in DXB we went arrived at the gate and no special beeps. But just before boarding commenced, the three of us were paged and there it was! Great start to our holiday.

Op-up yesterday on QF773. I think that's my first ever op-up domestically with QF. Too bad that was also the first ever flight for me to credit to AA!

I thought I was a lucky chosen one tonight on QF457 when my BP scanned and those magical beeps were heard.

Alas, it was a problem with the scanner. I must have had a depressed look on my face as the FA made a comment around "Maybe next time I'll be lucky!" and then offered me some J wine when they were serving dinner (was in row 25) to make it for the dissappointment. If only I liked wine... I had to polietly refuse.

Op-up at the gate on a Virgin BNE-ADL flight yesterday (as a VA WP); was rushing after my CNS-BNE flight arrived late (and I only had a 30-minute transit to start with), so it was a very pleasant surprise!

OP UP Today on QF444 Y to J at check-in. Flight before mine was cancelled so they must have needed the room.

Another WP recieved an OP-UP at the gate as I was standing behind her.

SWMBO and I had the pleasure of a rare QF discretionary op-up to J on Friday's QF6 from SIN-SYD. We were booked in Y+ with 34A/B selected, but after an equipment change from the older 4-class 744 to a refurb, our seats became the only bassinet position in Y+, and were now needed by other PAX. We were initially moved by the system before check in to a rear cabin middle row, but I still managed to reassign 34A/B with premium check in, not knowing at that stage about the bassinet requirement.

While in the lounge I was called and asked if we could move to the back of the cabin - this time with a reason why - but after some discussion with a very friendly lounge manager (I didn't get his name), I floated the potential of seats in J, even if without catering, and he said he would see what they could do. About 10 mins later he came and found me, with new boarding passes in hand, seated together in J! :)

A great end to our 3 weeks away, and a lovely gesture by QF, where they could have just as easily referred to my initial seat request being just that - a request. Big thanks to QF!!!

Cheers.

That's quite rare indeed. If anything, I'm surprised it's not overbooked to begin with - it's the start of the Singapore month-long school holidays. Don't know what the loads are like on other carriers, but if QF can't completely fill up their Y and Y+ at the start of the school holidays, that's some serious trouble.

Just did a dummy booking on the website - I can still get 9x class S ticket on QF6 for tonight. That can't be good...

Checking on ExpertFlyer in the lead up to the day of the flight, it looked as though Y was still wide open (showed 9 in about 7 or so fare buckets), though Y+ was selling only 1 in W, and J was selling about 6... I seem to recall QF82, which departs a few hours earlier, looking 'heavier'.

Nice surprise this morning. Flew SYD-CHC on QF Y award ticket(EK metal). Breakfast in Flounge, welcoming red beep at the gate, in J in 8K (bulkhead window seat)! Business class was half empty. Very nice!

Came back LHR-DXB-BNE on Friday. DXB-BNE quite empty which was a surprise - I find this flight very difficult to get on the QF codes for a decent price.

Just got oped-up Y to J ok EK DXB-PVG, two out of two so far on the DXB-PVG legs. I was 3/4 expecting it after keeping an eye on Expert Flyer the past week to see how it developed. And yay it was a 777 with the massage seats in Business class

Last 6 Y flights with CX have been upgraded to Y+ on the cheap fares. Very close now to switch from QFF to Marco Polo!!!!
I had just that experience tonight HKG-KUL. And on the flight earlier today the CSM moved me to an exit row seat with a shadow on a very full flight. Impressive recognition of another airline's OWE.

Was ASP SYD recently. Plenty of room in J.
Great flight, very good Flight attendants. Gave great service back into forward Y cabin. Good coffee. Cheeses. Wine.
I flew in the class I had booked, as expected. Y

Hmm but this is the opup thread

Might it be worthwhile to start tracking some of the loads/periods on particular flights for best future planning of travel? EK said my flights above were quiet, but my return would be busy because of Singapore school holidays ( Saturday 31st May to Sunday 29th June) - looks pretty full already - on the BNE-SIN-DXB horrid 777.
