I have decided for a one night stopover for our first time in Hong Kong I would like to stay above the popcorn shopping mall.
would like to use IHG points to redeem an award night
both hotels above the shopping mall cost the same amount of points

which hotel do you recommend between the holiday inn and the crowne plaza

ill be interested to see if anyone has stayed at either before - Tseung Kwan O is quite off the beaten track

you taught me something new - very suprised to see IHG properties there!

Causeway Bay? Crowne Plaza. I have stayed at the HIX a few times and wasn't impressed - thin walls, lots of noise from other rooms and outside.

Crowne Plaza CWB however is great. Nice view from the gym on the top floor too.

will not have enough points for causeway bay (or even to co pay for causeway bay), and will be staying at intercontinental on the return back through hong kong
cashed in all but 2000 qff points for the holiday (used 736000 for all flights for two with a co payment of just over $2200)
all but 9000 Hilton honours points cashed in for one night room redemption and Hilton macquarie weekend certificate used for another hotel.

so decided may as well cash in my very small amount of ihg points (18500 odd) (should be able to get this to 20000 with a few more e-reward surveys completed and those points transferred to ihg)

decided Citibank points would be better used transferring to asia miles for a future trip, so I am saving those for now because I night in an intercontinental for 45000 odd points has no where near the value of a future return trip for one from Sydney to perth for 50000 points in J

flybuys are the absolute worse points, worst loyalty program I have encountered now that I am trying to use points for flights and accommodation.

also have a business loyalty program tied to a supplier that I am considering using but they are about as bad as flybuys.

IHG rewards are best used for points breaks, as you effectively get a room for $35 a night.

Well of course but have been struggling to find useful point breaks opportunities recently!

You have to be patient, unless you intent to be in Suva or Tsv this month, but it also gives you a good $$ figure for points as well, if you price 5K at $35.

Few and far between.

When you have over 400,000 IHG points it requires a lot of patience. ;)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I almost booked the Crowne Plaza by the popcorn mall for the HKG lounge run but ended up in Harbour Grand HK instead. Sure it's a little bit dearer (only about AUD50 more/night) but still the best value 5 star hotel in HK IMHO. I have stayed at quite a number of hotels in HK and have found the room at Harbour Grand HK to be quite large by comparison, not to mention the incredible views of both HK and Kowloon. Fortress Hill MTR is a very short distance away which was an added bonus.
