Sorry in advance if this should be easily found in either AFF or Krisflyer website - I have looked but can't locate.

I have (stupidly) booked reward J flights as follows: MEL-SNG-SGN and then home TPE-SNG-MEL. I tried to look up F class at the time but said no availability and offered the J Class. I now understand that I could have phoned the call centre and booked mixed class (at F rates) and still received the 15% discount for the full flight, not by sector.

I have checked online and there is availability on the F class for my home (SNG-MEL) leg. I hold my points in Amex MR and transfer into the program I need at the time. If I transfer the points first, is there any point calling SQ and trying to upgrade to F and making up the points difference? I calculate the difference would be 17,000 points which I would do in a heartbeat as an F class virgin!

YES make sure you have sufficient pts in your KF account then call them - they will still honour the 15% disc as mixed class cannot be booked online? this should be straight forward - report back - if you have a prob I will pm you a manager to seek out - but you should not have a prob provided there is F availability.

Ok, called the call centre and was told I could upgrade the flight home but would use 40,250 points and an extra SDG$360. With no experience in this I didn't want to argue but it seemed too much on both counts. Here's what I calculated:
Redeemed flight took 46,750 points
F Reward from Taiwan to Melb would be 75,000 minus the 15% = 63,750
Difference = 17,000

I have no idea how to calculate the taxes but really want expecting much cost at all, based on other J/F tax comparisons I've done.

I've double checked and there are saver F redemptions currently available.

Have I done this right before I call back to press the point?

YES your calculations look correct to me - your original bookings were 2 ow J Savers right? Not one ret J Saver?

If YES - then call back and walk them through the figures - F taxes over J should only be a few dollars certainly not the figure they quoted you - try again and report back. You are calling KF on 02 9350 0203 right?

Thanks so much Cruiser Elite, yes the original booking were OW J Savers. I've transferred the points required from my Amex MR and will wait until they hit my Krisflyer account before I tackle them. Fingers crossed as I'm very excited about the prospect of my first F flight!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

YES do not bother to call them until your pts balance will cover what you are trying to achieve.

OK, 2nd try failed as well. CS stated that there is no F Saver seat available from Taipei to Melb, because the pool is different than from Singapore? I have a confirmed J all the way now and can see a Saver seat on the 2nd leg of the flight from SNG-MEL. She told me to keep checking for 1st class availability from TPE-MEL but this doesn't seem to be possible online. Should I keep pushing or does that sound correct?

Dates? mmmmmmmmmmmmm

I'm literally in the SQ Lounge for my out leg, board in 10 minutes!

Home leg is TPE-SNG Jun 10 14:25-18:50. Then SNG-MEL Jun 11 @ 10:40am

Should I try again in the Silver Kris lounge in Changi?

Ben I have had experience before where I could not get F Saver PEK-MEL - but if I checked F Saver availability PEK-SIN then SIN-MEL as individual sectors it did indeed show availability on both - but there is a limit on combos - don't know any more than that.

I will PM you a managers contacts - call and ask for him - he will give you definitive response.

Thanks again Cruiser. This operator did seem to know what she was doing so losing hope I think. I'll try the manager but may have to concede this time and call it a 'learning experience'. I can promise you it won't happen again!

End of the saga was "no dice". Apparently there needed to be an allocation of F seats on the Taipei-Melbourne route (which there was not), even though there was a Saver seat on the Sing-Mel leg showing. A little frustrating but I still enjoyed the J class SQ experience for the first time and still have the F class as a goal for my next appropriate trip!
