Looking for reasonably priced accommodation in London within vicinity of Paddington station mid-April 2015. It is only a couple of years since we were in London last but the costs of hotel stays seemed to have jumped incredibly. Any help appreciated.

Always worth looking at award stays when rates are high. For instance the indigo is 35000 IHG points a night + USD $70. You can buy points once you have 5000 for USD$70 per 10000, so that gives you a benchmark as to their value versus paying for a room.

On the Starwood (Sheraton) front the Park Lane is 12000 Starpoints a night, with the current promo you can buy 20000 for around $600, so that gives you another benchmark. Rooms are over 439 GBP

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Friends did private apartment rental last time and were very impressed. At peak season they had q fair bit of choice <GBP150 p.n.

I'm staying at Mercure Paddington in a months time - right across from the Station entrance in Praed Street, next to the Hilton.

At GBP209 it may or may not be "reasonably priced" but if you want an easy arrival from LHR via HEX, its great; consider the cost of a taxi and back in the TOTAL cost if you get a hotel further than the distance you would walk with a suitcase. I'm arriving via HEX, short walk, check-in, on the Tube and where I want to be that day :)

I stayed at this place in 2010, shortly after it opened. It was the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in (note: it was a 'single', booked as such, so I imagine doubles will be a little larger). It was air conditioned and clean and comfortable and had every amenity needed, though I never ate there (there is enough eating about without having to if you wish).

It is showing 'compact double' rooms from ~GBP102 (incl. b/fast) in March 2015 (April rates not loaded it appears).

It's about 10 minutes easy walk from Paddington Station. Do your research as TA has some mixed reviews - all I can say is it was clean, comfortable, well-located and well-priced for me. And note there is (or at least was) a hotel nearby with a similar sounding name - get the right one. :)
