HA to commence BNE-HNL

Yes. but if half the plane goes to HNL and other half onward to JFK you end up with a half full plane doing HNL-JFK as due to US rules you can't pickup new pax for a "Domestic" service.

QF107/108 only works because QF funnels JFK passengers from a variety of services.

They could be funneling passengers from MEL, SYD and BNE with 3 services from Australia, just like they do with 107/108...but anyway it is a highly unlikely eventuality.

Just booked for Easter long weekend. $1024 in whY per pax all up. Unsure if this is part of an introductory special but it's pretty good pricing for Easter I think and certainly beats routing via SYD.

No status on them but at least we can earn Velocity Points and SCs. Priority Pass will take care of lounge access in HNL, but sadly not BNE.

Am I the only one who cannot stand flying 767s internationally?

I will never step foot on that joke of a flight QF003 to HNL for the prices they charge! Great example of what lack of competition does to a route...

Lack of competition? Seriously? HA are daily and thier product isn't too shaby. They obviously are the dominant carrier to HNL. There is JQ as well. Who else would be able to fly the route from Hawaii, the US or Australia?

I would not say HA are dominant, until recently JQ had more capacity but actual traffic was line ball, will be interesting to watch how things change now that HA have new metal on the route, this was in April:

I was just thinking that if QF had a 744 that did MEL/HNL/DFW or MEL/HNL/JFK that would be popular as HNL seems to go out of fashion & it would allow pax to avoid both SYD & LAX & still get to HNL or the East coast.

It would also suit pax connect from PER/ADL/HBA.

I'm probably dreaming though.

Although you can have own stopover traffic so if you flew into HNL on QF you could fly HNL/DFW for example like the olden days when QF3 did SYD/HNL/SFO or QF17 did SYD/NAN/HNL/LAX.

I don't know if there would be enough demand for HNL/JFK but HNL/DFW would probably be a more viable option.

Virgin Aus.

With what aircraft? The 777's are not going from LAX or Abu Dhabi, thier 330's are focused on PER. If Voz thought they could make money from it, they would do it. They have agreements with Hawaiian anyway so it probably works well for both parties.

HA are upgrading this route to A330s from December 5 2014.

Same dog, different leg. Okay so we now get a 110v power outlet in the seat - anything else? How about a new menu or are they still serving up the foil tray of steamed rice, with a couple of tiny morsels of chicken with the three strips of asparagus on top?

HA constantly tell to enjoy the wonderful in-flight service (apparently), mahalo this, aloha that not unlike a NATO meeting - no action talk only. Get ready to be promised the world & given an atlas.

I'm not saying don't fly them but if you do make sure you eat before you get onboard & take plenty of food with you as there's usually a 6 hour stretch when you get nothing in-between. In fact you get more food on a QF or VA transcon flight which is half the distance.

This 'full service airline' makes you pay extra for the DVD rental (assuming they don't forget to load the eftpos machine to charge you), extra for snacks (again, assuming the don't forget to load the eftpos machine so they can charge you),

HA A330's have AVOD at all seats and USB power. Okay it's nothing to write home about but it sure beats the opposition at this point in time.
