Hi and thanks for reading,

Im wondering if I book Delta USA domestic flights but the flight is "Operated by: Compass DBA Delta Connection", would they still qualify for Velocity status credits and points?

Im trying to avoid being hurt by the partner airline small print.

thanks

Yes, you would earn points/SC's as per the booking class for travelling on these. They do have DL flight numbers.

that's where my "am I silver..am I not" drama came in...
some Velocity people said the Delta and Virgin america first class lax-mco-lax flights earned eligible flights taking me to 2 ....that then would have taken me to silver...
then they said they didn't count as eligible flights so I was 2 flights short and stayed at RED...

Oh the confusion....I need another lie down :)

You just need to be clear on what you are referring to when you say eligible flight. Eligible flight for status credits, or eligible flight for VA sector requirement. You can have an eligible flight for the SC's, but the same flight may not give you the sectors.

and that's where the confusion lies.....I just assumed (incorrectly) that every flight flown will add to my eligible flight quota....but didn't realize that they must be VA...

A rookie error for sure...

Just trying to help others avoid the pitfalls I have thrown myself into with gusto....

c)where Virgin Australia is the Marketing Carrier.

Marketing Carrier means the airline whose code the Flight Sector is operated under. For example, Virgin Australia is the Marketing Carrier for any flight number that starts with a VA prefix.

Makes perfect sense now.....Thanks williamsf1 for pointing out the correct term....:)

So, because I never use to care but now my husband is all over my butt on SCs and eligible sectors, Im looking at flights for:

LAX>Seattle/SEA (Delta J Class)
SEA>San Francisco (Virgin America J Class)
SF>LAX (Virgin America J Class)

Would these be eligible flights and sectors? We will be paying for the flights and even if we went Y, they will be flexi.

Ah. But what if I book tickets direct on Delta or VX website?

[/INDENT]

I'll let the others who are more knowledgeable answer this with all the correct terminology...but I totally understand your confusion......so come sit by me....

It's a learning experience.

My husband also wants the perks of status....if only they knew how hard this really is :)

These flights do not qualify as eligible sectors because VA are not the marketing carrier. They will however, earn status credits as long as they are ticketed as DL and VX (not codeshare) and are in the correct fare bucket.

And....

Delta and VX earn points by miles flown

VA domestic = $$ spent...5 points per $1 spent on cheapo fare....
VA International = Miles flown........
which I just learnt today.

So Denali, take that into consideration when checking account for DL/VX flights.
Also you don't get bonus miles ie: silver 50% on delta or VX. Only miles earned on class flown.

So this is where I join the "I hate VA website" thread because I cant book a multiple stops on the VA website?

Many thanks for your responses, I was telling hubby that I wanted to book AirNZ J flights to LAX and now Im glad he said to wait.

It is like learning a new language.....I can now say I'm Bilingual...I speak English AND Velocity (ok, not too well on the velocity, but my accent is gradually improving )...

What do you mean "multiple stops"? What are you going?

Life was much easier when you checked in, sit down, shut up and got there. Now its about the seats, configeration, SCs, sectors, extra allowance etc.
