Wait, so let me get this right. South African Airways is flying in Premium Economy to Singapore for the entirety of the second half of 2015?

perhaps you work in 'media'...where the facts/details are often 'overlooked':oops::D

anyhoo...lots of commentary over on AustBT on this subject

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Apologies - If a mod could amend the title that would be great ..my error ...cheers.

It will be interesting what they offer, in regards to Seating, Service, etc. Will it be like CX or like QF, or more down the NZ service.
In the end its the seat and space that make the difference. If they allow Lounge access with a PE fare, well they will get bums on seats no problem.

OHH and the cost as well, QF is to costly when compared to CX and it service. We are flying CX at the end of the month and will be putting a trip report up, in regards to CX PE.

Markis, do you think this could be a game changer. With all the Babyboomers coming into retirement, and looking to travel to UK, and Europe. The attraction of PE with regards to Price and comfort.

Too early to tell, for Sydneysiders it might be OK but it won't be cheap outside of Sydney as they don't have competition.

that's a very interesting comparison..ive done comparison QF/CX P/Y searches..QF $100-$200 more..but in terms of cabin/crew/toilet location/meals/amenities/checkin/luggage/lounge access...which all seem to be VERY important to P/Y pax...i'd happily choose to fly QF

I'd like to see SQ try something a little different. Take their current Y offering, mark the prices up, make some cosmetic changes and dress it up as Y+, then introduce a whole new class of seating for discount Economy.

They have already done that, it's called Scoot.

Yet another reason why QF's decision not to install Y+ on their A330s when they do the J upgrade is yet another poor planning decision.

More importantly is that ALL existing 77W will be upgraded with NEW F and J to align with the new 77W being delivered - I like that.

Thank god for that, as a someone that doesnt drink booze, coffee or tea or fly overnight often (so I dont need a flatbed for 8hrs sleep), I think the 14 types of tea, 8 types of coffee, a dozen type of spirits is overkill for my simple tastes.

I will be very interested in the seats/specs they install.

QF made that decision for the reasons of where/how the QF a330 fleet will be utilized and QFs/Australia's geographical position....totally different to where/how SQ and for that matter CX operate their various fleet types from.. apples and oranges.. there are vast differences between Australia (and ALL its limitations) and other countries/nations

I think it's great and will be a tremendous bonus for us here in Perth, as SQ is the only airline we'd currently choose to fly with to Europe (I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than fly with Emirates again) and much as we'd love to fly J all the time, it's certainly not in our budget! Neither of us enjoy flying much at all, and Y on a long-haul trip is hell on earth as far as I'm concerned LOL. We've used VA's PE product for several trips to the US (and hope to use points upgrade from Y+ to J for the next trip :) ) and have found the flights much more bearable, and as good as SQ's Y product is, it will be a very attractive prospect to have Y+ from SIN to Europe - I assume it probably won't be offered for the PER-SIN legs of course.

I was under the understanding that QF's A330s are to be utilised on routes like SIN and HKG. SQ and CX see a need to provide Y+ on these routes, clearly the genuises at QF see something else.

not sure what routes you are looking at but CX is usually more costly than QF in PE when I look at HKG-SYD for example - QF struggle to sell seats in PE and Y and typically have to sell them at a 20% discount to CX's fares
