Roos at CBR

Tie me kangaroos down sport! A pair of giant roo statues have appeared beside the B taxiway at CBR.

To be fair to all airlines using CBR, I'm sure Canberra Airport Corp will say they are Virgin Red Roos named Flight Lieutenant Rex!

My brother in law used to be 'the man' at Cobar airport, organise the fuel, stick his head out the window and give the pilot a weather report, handle the bags, then before take off drive the ute around the runway and chase off the roos.

I work for the Ambulance Service in WA, and we often have to task the volunteers in the country to do a "roo run" and clear the roos (or cows actually) off the airstrip before the RFDS land- would be a sight for them!

Sunset or dawn landings at MKT in Darwin's south are always exciting courtesy of wallabies emerging from the scrub and buffalo do wander around at times.
Thankfully for the forum are no scheduled flights to what is the second busiest strip in the NT, there is no Avtur, only Avgas. The largest aircraft is an Antonov AN2, the worlds largest production biplane. A sight to behold as its pax load cartons and quads, and its radial engines belch smoke as it floats into the air - it will happily fly backwards in a 30 knot headwind.

what amuses me most is that the OP states STATUES of roos (ie..stationary objects/art shaped like roos)...but others go off on their own tangent of various animals wandering around airports and the various methods used to 'control' them

on a lighter note...i'm sure VA wont be happy with these STATUES...seen to be 'favouring QF' .... Look out for STATUES of scantily clad 'flying' females with flowing OZ flags soon!!
