Hi,
has anyone hired a car preferably a G6E from Avis HBA airport of late, I am enquiring if the vehicle is a series 2 with Sat Nav.

with thanks

I don't believe Avis have G6E's anymore - they have G6 limited editions. I think these are half way between the G6 and G6E. And the ones Avis in Tassie had approx. 12 months ago were the Ecoboost 4 cylinder turbo version - they bought a whole batch from Ford. Doubt whether they have sat nav. Suggest you call Avis Hobart to confirm though.

Hired a GE6 from HBA Avis 2 weeks ago but am afraid i didn't notice if it had sat nav as Mrs K is a better map reader than Captain Cook......but it was maroon in colour!

We rented a car from Avis in Hobart CBD for a day trip to Port Arthur last month. It didn't come with Sat Nav, but we just used Google Maps on our iPhone and it worked perfectly with Telstra 4G. Excellent reception everywhere. This might be a good option for some people...
Hope this helps

Google maps or sat nav (tom tom ) for me when in Hobart.

Only word of warning with AVIS in Hobart, make sure you take some pics of the car when you return it.... We got slugged with a 3k Bill for damage unannounced 2 weeks later on our credit card.. that wasnt there when we returned it.. Luckily we had pics proving as thus, it then came out the Avis car washer had run the bumper into a kerb... Took 6 weeks to get the refund.. Never rented from them again.. Hertz get my 80+ rental days a year now.

Nil issues with Avis in HBA.

We also used google maps without issue.

Hi All,
i ended up calling Avis Hobart and made the enquiry, the G6E models they carry in fleet don't have Sat Nav.

i called Hertz as I have hired vehicles from them in Tasmania before, I asked what their large car model was, I was informed it was a Nissan Maxima. It would be 3 years ago since I hired this model of car, I know they haven't sold them for around two years now.

I reached out To Europcar as I hired a A6 from them Two years ago to the month, asked if they have turned over the fleet, I was told they are the same cars as two years ago.

can anyone confirm any of the above.

Cheers
NL

Did Avis advise whether they had G6 or G6E's?

Is it sat nav you're after, or series 2? If sat nav, why? As others have mentioned, phones with GPS work fine. Use my iPhone for this often ... Works fine through Bluetooth.

Whilst I can't confirm specific Hertz or Europcar models for Tassie, the following should be noted based on my understanding:

Europcar usually only keep Audis for approx 6 mths.

Nissan Maximas were last sold in Australia approx 12-18 mths ago, before being replaced by Altima.

Most, if not all, car rental companies in Tassie are franchisees/licensees - they choose the models and the time they keep them.

Given the above, I doubt the A6's would be 2 yrs old but I don't doubt that Hertz might still have some Maximas, if not Altimas.

We had a maxima just over 3 years ago (dec 2010) from hertz HBA.

It was a pile of junk then despite only 3,000 km on the odometer, and for such pathetic performance drank fuel. No sat nav.

Avoid.

Renting cars soon gives you an idea of what their quality is like!

Yeah, when we booked it was Falcon or equivalent.

It wasn't equivalent.

I've discovered the Hyundai i45 isn't a bad car (free upgrade at SYD) and the new corolla is just as pox as the old one.....

It certainly does! Even the cars I like driving/renting (Commodore SV6's/Falcon XR6's) have common recurring problems - Commodores often need front wheel alignment as the alignment is easily knocked out by hitting the kerb, which upsets the great steering and handling of the car and the Falcon seems to have diff issues (I suspect when driven hard).

Agree a Nissan Maxima is not equivalent to a Falcon, but unfortunately rental car companies don't use any logic/reason for their 'similar'! It just means they consider it similar!

Not a fan of Hyundais. You won't see i45's much longer, since they haven't been sold in Aus for some time now (over 12 months). Might just replace them with smaller i40's. Not sure whether the equipment levels are similar. As for the new Corolla, I drove one last weekend and thought it drove better than I was expecting! Wasn't expecting much though!

Further to my previous comments, I meant to mention that the Nissan Altima is the same car as a Maxima.

Hi All,
A post update on car hire in Hobart, rented a Passat from Europcar, really surprised, a great car.Did have 20K clock however but drove like new plated 12month/13 . The guys at the airport europcar car office were good to deal with.
Fuel economy for those that are interested was 7.5 l to the 100.
For those looking for something different to rent a great alternative.
