But I *do* want to be able to see (say) CBR-SYD in J connecting to SYD-HKG in F as an F award... or Y for the shorter leg and J for the longer one as a J award.

That's where the system needs just the tiniest of brains. If the longer leg is in the requested class and the shorter leg in a lower class, then display the result, but if it is the other way around, forget it!

Most would go same class all the way, in my case it's J, try and find that OZ to Lax.

Like many businesses QF won't improve its service (in QF's case, the functionality of award searches on the website) no matter how much AFFers complain. That's because it's a recognised (albeit an unpopular one) business practice nowadays to deliberately make it more difficult for customers to access certain "services" that the business needs to provide but does not want to actively promote. Mobile phone companies have different call rates from their competitors and contracts that are hard to understand by the same reasoning. Qantas wants cash now and is not really interested in reducing the liability that accumulated points represents because that's something they can worry about in the future. Certainly they don't want to make it easier to redeem award flights even if doing so would make their customers happy because happy customers aren't necessarily profitable customers.

I don't think it's inadvertent that if you search QF for J seats for YVR - JFK the QF website only shows availability via HKG (as if anyone wants to travel 23,000 km to go the wrong way around the world to get to the same place when there is a 3,900 km direct flight available on CX). Call QF however and you will find that there's plenty of availability for the direct flight on the same dates. And it's not as if QF is trying to steer you on to their metal - in this example CX operates the "wrong way" flights too.

I think we all just have to wise up that "customer loyalty", "customer satisfaction" etc are phenomena that are soooooooo very 20th century. We are all just numbers in statistical spreadsheets now so just work the system as best you can, while you can..

Why not provide a "tick box" to show/hide mixed class itineraries? Who would in their right mind pay for J for a 17 hour itinerary, and only get J for 1 hour and Y for the rest?

Or at least separate premium itineraries from Y, for god sake!

As another CBR based flyer, I don't mind seeing mixed itins, since you may have a legitimate CBR-(Y)-SYD-(J)-LAX. It's be a real pain if you where not told about the SYD-LAX sector in J since all that was available from CBR-SYD was dash 8's.

What there needs to be is the concept of the most significant flight. For example, when I fly CBR-SYD-LAX, the SYD-LAX flight is the most significant, the CBR-SYD flight is almost inconsequential, to the point that it's nothing more than a little annoyance of not living in a city with an international airport.

We have Int. terminal its not used much, but at least CX fly out of here and guess what... if J award is available it shows J!!. not Y & J

I know many people who have booked a mixed itinery and did not notice that their long sector was in Y. I know we all should check, but some people just believe the qantas website and are possibly so excited to find a seat that they just don't check!
the longer sector should certainly be the one displayed.
when are u going to fix this other silver availability problem( no you cannot actually book these fabulous available flts, that is what is so frustrating clicking and no availability so clicking the next)
I have to actually log into some one else's gold account to get real availability.

I and other family members are going round in circles, trying all sorts of permutations to find just one ASA seat SYD/LHR, any route, on anything above economy class for travel August/September/or early October without success.
If we fly with a carrier paying full fare to HKG, we can see that CX has one or two openings HKG/LHR for Business using points, but in order to do that, we must book with Qantas, not Cathay.
But from my sons' experience, trying to book on my behalf (I gave up trying), he was refused a seat, even though the CX web site shows a few empty seats.
Informed that none were available on the dates, even though he saw those seats showing up available on those dates on the web site, as he was speaking on the phone to the operator.
Whether you have 1 million points or not, there seems to be no way that Qantas will honour you with a seat using points and pay.
Using the Call Centre is not much help either as they do not seem to be able to find seats when a series of dates are proffered to them to check.
Yet, I find that frequently flights departing SYD/BNE or MEB have empty Business or First Class seats, according to informants.
So does one turn up at the airport with a paid ECY seat booked and ask to pay the difference with points to obtain one of those empty seats or wait at the airport until there is a flight that you can buy a seat on within a few hours of departure.?

As the Qantas crisis is on going, I am beginning to wonder if the only way I can book an ASA seat is to book it 11 months out, which really is quite ridiculous.
One time it was possible to buy an ASA seat on most long haul routes, about a month or two out; now it really seems to be a lottery.
Has anyone here been able book an ASA seat for travel SYD/LHR or SYD/LAX in the next two months, within the last month?
If you did how did you snare it, or if not what can be done ?
What can one do to complain to Qantas ???
It is probably futile I suppose to even contemplate this action.

Any experts here like Red Roo, please help as I am getting to be an AOM (angry old man) !!!!!!
