Is Qantas the only Oneworld member that now punishes people for flying Oneworld??

As mentioned Qantas is not alone.

Can Australians without a UK address join BA Executive Club? And I seem to recall status was only earned on premium airfares unless that has changed.

Just use any address outside Australia and you can join BAEC.

I remember when I joined QFF I used my Pakistan address and it was free for me to join, If I had used my Aussie address it was ~$80 to join the program. Wasn't going to pay to simply JOIN a loyalty program. Back then I didn't know Aussies usually get ripped off with such things.

So why are you whining and moaning in here about people whining and moaning in here?

Pot...kettle....

I didn't start another thread to whine and moan about this thread.

Mileage based status point earning on cx is quite attractive for those of us forced to travel in Y for work...1 USA trip and I'm a third of the way to requaling for GO

As long as the ticket is in a bucket that earns points.

Let's get one thing straight. No one is punished for flying OW. Just not rewarded as much.
If they took SC away from you for flying OW, THAT would be a punishment.

Hang on. I am being punished for flying OneWorld. HKG-SYD earns me 120SC in J, regardless of the carrier; after 1 July it will earn me 60SC in J if I decide to fly the airline offering a better hard product, oftentimes better soft product and more often than not, better pricing.

How is that not penalising me for flying a carrier other than Qantas?

Three guests check into a hotel room. The clerk says the bill is $30, so each guest pays $10. Later the clerk realizes the bill should only be $25. To rectify this, he gives the bellhop $5 to return to the guests. On the way to the room, the bellhop realizes that he cannot divide the money equally. As the guests didn't know the total of the revised bill, the bellhop decides to just give each guest $1 and keep $2 for himself. Each guest got $1 back: so now each guest only paid $9; bringing the total paid to $27. The bellhop has $2. And $27 + $2 = $29 so, if the guests originally handed over $30, what happened to the remaining $1?

Why do you think this riddle is relevant?

Why do you think this riddle is relevant?

It's not really.

At the end of the day, Qantas effectively made it twice as expensive to gain status if you fly OW.
Supply and Demand. That's how the world works.

During QLD floods, bananas were going for $2 a stick. Would you call that farmers punishing people?

If you still want to stay with the QFFF program, it is you who is "punishing" yourself.

Doubtful.

Qantas might make it "harder" for me to get to Platinum, but I will still make Platinum. What will happen though, is Qantas (group) will get no more than 4 segments I need each year to get the "~". Probably on J*Asia runs between SIN and KUL! I will avoid QF metal as much as I can.

And they might get some more $$ thrown at them via TT price beat JQ runs; to make hay while the FLounge runs last. Nothing personal. Just business.

Qantas wants flyers to pick it over the competition. Qantas knows it doesn't have the product that'll bring back the punters, and so have made the decision to disincentivize those flying on OneWorld carriers to destinations served by EK or miniEK. It is tantamount to "punishing" the fliers for picking OneWorld. Whether the punishment brings people back onto Qantas Metal or drives them further away will play out over the coming months.

There have been major hits for anyone achieving status like me - on xONEx trips and MASAs. So much so that you can forget earning WP that way anymore.

Flying Qantas there are minor downgrades to points and SC earn at the cheap end, which probably makes sense, but little has changed.

Essentially they have closed most of the loopholes that I and many others here have enjoyed for years. If my case is representative, that is probably good for them. My status was earned and retained almost entirely on oneworld partners, Jetstar cheapies for domestic Flounge runs and a few MASAs. The total contribution made to Qantas by me per year is often zero and at most a few hundred bucks. The only winner from me is the ticketing airline of the trip - which hasn't ever been Qantas. And in return they pay for my Flounge access and other WP privileges everywhere up to 50 times a year.

Tbh, they'll lose me now. And many others here. Because I/we can now play the systems of other airlines more beneficially. Losing me/us may not be a bad result in the end.

have you attempted to proceed with the enrollment?

Ahh, touché... last time I'd visited the site, Australia wasn't even an option... seems I can get to that page but not beyond (unless I use something like myus.com or GlobalEshop). Damn – I thought that restriction disappeared when the QK/BA JSA was dissolved. :(
