adverse zone changes under new system

Caversham04, I was talking to someone during the week who is in a position to know how a national business is faring and he remarked to me (ranking the states) 'WA was best, followed by NSW; Vic 'fair', Qld 'not good' and then SA at the bottom, but of the two last, SA is the 'basket case.'

So if that's also true for airlines, ADL may be not doing well. However that doesn't explain why JQ moved planes and staff from DRW (it said its routes there were 'marginal' or 'among the most marginal') to ADL; nor does it explain the drop in SCs for your flights.

Meburnian1 - which industry were they referring to? The QF flights that I've taken recently have been fairly full......

Given that the fixed costs are (I would guess) a large proportion of the total cost of flying a passenger ex-ADL, surely the more bums on seats, the better? Tto me, as a Silver QFF, flying mostly on the cheaper deals - of the few routes that are still available to ADL-based flyers on Qantas, those to major destinations (i.e. State capitals) have an average reduction of approx 25% in Miles earned, with ALL routes showing a reduction, and 15% average drop in Status Credits earned (3 of the 6 routes are unchanged, so that actual effect is greater than this for the routes that are affected). Hardly much of an incentive for anyone ADL-based to continue to fly with them!

HKG-KUL should still earn 80SC per the 'all other routes' table.

My flights in and out of ADL are always probably >80% full as well.

I hadn't actually picked up on the reduction in points earned - now I'm even more pissed off!

I bet that there will be a few QF FF looking closely now at the segments they fly, and the airports that they can transit through for a few dollars more, SYD-MEL-HBT for example and look at trying for the AA status with segments.

Not only that, but I regularly fly ADL to PER every 2 weeks and the points required to upgrade classes from ADL to PER has not been reduced. So for earning, we now get less FF and SC, but it still costs the same points to upgrade, which they only just raised from 16k to 20k recently for discount economy to business.

ADL - PER = 1314 miles

Earning points it is now considered a 'mid' flight, which is the new bracket of 751 - 1,500 miles.

Yet for the spending of points, it hasnt changed and its using their zone system, and we fall into the bottom end of the more expensive Zone 3 range which is 1,201 miles to 2,400 miles

At least they could have done the decent thing and lined up the earning and spending so the miles needed for each matched, as it is we just miss out on getting into the next category for earning points, and just fall into the category for spending more, talk about the cough-end of the deal!

I can see that Virgin will be getting lots more business from ADL in future and the full planes that I always catch will start seeing less and less business travelers.
