Mobile phone overseas

I don't usually bother taking a mobile phone abroad except to USA, this time however will in 4 European countries and will need to use one but sparingly, have unlocked iPhone4s, any recommendations of a carrier.

Will be using one of lefrenchmobile simcards in FR but I understand they also have a Euro SIM.

They transact in English and support is in English

Euro carriers generally have very poor tourist centric products and often require over the counter transactions in their language in that country.
