How reliable is this information?

I have been told that a photo(s) has been released. I pray this is true as

it sounds promising but I can't find anything to substantiate the information I have received. Hopefully somebody here can confirm.

I am unable to find any details online, however I pray this is true and that it is not as we all fear.

Interesting if true...

Italian newspapers are reporting that the Italian passenger is alive in Thailand. He was not on-board. He reported his passport been stolen on August 1st, 2013 when he was in Thailand.
Someone using his stolen passport was on-board.

My thoughts are with the families of all the pax and crew. Indeed a sombre day for all air travellers and a sullen reminder that we are all so humanly fragile and vulnerable, regardless of our machinery, technologies and achievements. My fingers are crossed and I'm quietly hoping for a miracle.

My mind started ticking away after reading that. My immediate reaction was that it's a strange sort of justice, but then felt remorse thinking that as the punishment does not fit the crime.

However, I started wondering whether the stolen passport was just a step in a far more sinister plot :!:

We can only hope that's not the case. I shudder to think...

Me too.

The topic of a terrorist hijacking did come up in discussion with my partner today.
I concluded that the only silver lining if that did occur would be if the highjacked plane was landed in some remote airstrip, at least then there is hope of rescue for the passengers.

Too much speculation, we need some real news.

I agree. I had my fingers crossed my news was accurate but I fear not. Certainly no intention to cause distress to anybody by false reporting. Think we are all hoping for some good news.

I think if such a photo was genuine, that with the viral speed of the internet these days that it would be everywhere by now.

Certainly a lot of wild speculation, inevitably the result of a lack of any concrete news.

While we all hope for the best, we know that the likely outcome is not a good one.

Interesting way of looking at it. Some cultures are slower to react to human error, some are more fatalist and therefore a conscious response is not always forthcoming, ismy experience.

If Dr FM has concerns then they should make alternative travel arrangements.
She is in a total panic and is looking to cancel and rebook with Qantas. malaysian air has a very good safety record and so I find it a bit of an extreme response on her part. Must admit I have no experience with them, so not sure if your comments mean that you think culturally they would not be inclined to exert extra care after an incident? possibly I am looking at from a point of view of what would happen here?

SWMBO is also in a panic over our first MH flight in May. However, she has decided that we are meant to be on that flight and that changing flights would be asking for something to happen to the new flight. Karma stuff.

Apparently the Austrian reported as being on board is safe and well, and had his passport stolen in Thailand two years ago: APA – Austria Presse Agentur: Boeing mit 239 Passagieren vor Vietnam verschollen

We can call wild rumour then as the same has been said of the Italian.

Still the possibility of nefarious actions with 2 stolen passports will help with SWMBO's panic vs being mechanical or human error. (As bad as that sounds)
