Travelled SQ on SQ ticket this week to India and return.

As a VA WP I am used to preferred seat selection.

I was up until the SQ/VA deal Gold with SQ also.

After the deal, I put all my points to VA (I'd been travelling to US mainly anyway).

This week was the first time since I lost SQ Gold that I travelled on SQ.

So I put my VA WP # instead of SQ silver.

Big mistake.

First world problems, but I could not get online seat selection for 2 of the 4 flights.

Ended up with a sprained ankle in a middle seat beside an elderly pax who couldn't move a lot herself.

Not the end of the world but sometimes, the simple things mean a lot!!

Has anyone else had any experience with SQ using their VA status?

Cheers

I'm still VA WP and need SQ seat selection too. Terrific plus we can transfer pts, to KrisFlyer and upgrade, etc. But no seat selection on SQ is still a serious outstanding issue VA, to be addressed. I know these matters are incremental, but getting Silk Air on board happened (in due course) and so should this. Encouragement to all involved from SE Asia. Cheers, PJ

If it helps, if you book with SQ direct or via some travel agents, you will get seat selection online (just as anyone would).

You are entirely correct though, if VA want anyone to book an economy seat on their code share more than once, instead of running screaming direct to SQ right after the first time they are stuck with a risk of the dreaded middle seat, they need to get it sorted!

I booked online direct with SQ for flights last August and had no trouble selecting Y seats that I was happy with. I think the very front of Y was blocked to me but I was only a few rows back, and I got aisle seats.

VA Plat and Gold should be able to select same seats as Star Gold (the front rows), it makes no sense that I can use my A3 status to pick up front row seats with the middle free where booking via the VA codeshare with status middle seats at the back...

I flew home to Sydney from Heathrow last year on a VA booked SQ Y Flexi ticket, and Gold VA Status. I was unable to secure an aisle seat on check in for the LHR-SIN leg despite mentioning my status and even that I had a more expensive Flexi ticket... I was desperate! I also pleaded my very real bladder issues therefore needing an aisle seat as a courtesy to other passengers. I was told sorry, can't help. On arrival at the Silver Kris lounge I mentioned my issue to lounge staff. I was later paged and given an aisle exit row seat, so very pleased and thought this may be the way I would deal with the SQ / VA seating problem in future, hopefully use lounge staff to try to secure my preferred seating. I am not even concerned with which row, just need the aisle.
After reading all the pros and cons here I have booked via SQ direct for an upcoming trip to Hong Kong. It was cheaper, a Flexi saver so great SC earn and I selected seats at time of booking, even scored Upper Deck on the A380! Sure I won't earn my VA bonus points and sectors but that's not a problem.
I would like to suggest another VA/ SQ alliance enhancement that could be made. When booking with Cathay direct but entering Qantas FF number on another upcoming HK flight my booking is available to view via my QFF account.
I would hope in the future we can expect SQ seat selection and bookings displayed via Velocity account.

Agree with all of the above. Booking with VA nets better points earn and adds to the eligible sector count, but it's poor compensation for being unable to select a seat. Will continue to book directly with SQ until this is changed.

This is exactly my point!

Noting some of the other replies, perhaps I wasn't clear enough at the start.

Yes we can access seat selection booking direct with SQ, but if the seats we can select are only middle seats at the back of the plane...

In my case I know if I used *G (my colleague used his and half of the seat map was open to him) then I would have had a much better choice of seats.

Clearly there is either no special preference given to VA WP on SQ, or the preference is only over the guy on the very cheapest ticket with no status.

How do you do that? As a lifetime Premier Platinum and Star Gold, I cannot select seats in advance other than 2 or 3 rubbish ones (everything else id greyed out). So I just don't select SQ any more. Their service is overly pretentious as well IMHO.

My current dilemma as I need VA sectors to re-qualify not SCs, so ticketed a VA code-share on SQ metal. But no online seat selection in whY, or J for that matter before checkin really needs attention by VA as it sure is otherwise a continuing revenue bleed for VA as is.

I flew similar flights to HKG last year in J. Once I had my SQ booking reference # I rang SQ reservations and was able to get seat allocation. Advice is if you don't get satisfaction the first time, hang up and call again.

I had the same issue with an NZ operated flight booked on a VA code share. I had to call Air NZ, get their booking reference and then book the seats.

Another person here that books direct with SQ purely due to the seat selection issue. Would love to see VA sort this out...

Ive booked direct with SQ and still cant do a seat selection, I cant actually even enter my PNR, noone is able to help with it so far

I would love to book an VA codeshare SQ flight in September but the chance of a middle seat terrifies me.

I don't need VA sectors but I would prefer to book via VA website as the airfare is cheaper than SQ website offers and a further 5% discount using a gift voucher.

I think I have just made this error myself. I have booked a quick dash to SIN via BNE from the VA site and now I'm stuck in limbo in terms of seat selections and getting a decent position. As far as I can see on the flight over I'm 42G as a seat, so far towards the back of the bloody plane. So it seems that even with a Gold status with VA I'm unable to get much benefit from my status when booking a codeshare through VA.

Does anyone know if I can opt for a better seat or is there a premium economy I can upgrade to once I'm at the check-in desk?

Cabin opens up at something like T-36 ... I'll search my old threads and find the exact number

You are in row 12 of economy. There's still another 20 rows behind you. Not really the back of the plane. Having PPS solitaire spouse status I usually get to choose from the forward rows (starting from 3rd row) but after my last flight I'm now thinking, at least for longer flights, further back away from bassinet seats may well be a lot better!

It seems to always be my luck that no matter what class I'm flying I'm near the screaming babies. Does the A330 - 300 have premium economy do you know?
